I’ve been lucky and not have water in the plug issue. Well I only assume because the area is dry after rain.
However, yesterday and last night it rained hard most of the day.

This morning I checked and still no water but it was actually dangerously close.

Decided might as well get the cover just in case.

Should I clean the area it will cover first or not a big deal?

It’s not a big deal so don’t overthink it - if it’s dirty, it’s likely just dust and will get dusty again, even with the cover. You might want to reverse your vacuum cleaner hose and blow the dust off before installation if it’s really bad.

btw - the cover doesn’t really stop water from getting to the spark plug well. It was first thought that it would and Ford called for an engine cover in a TSB. We now have a better understanding of how the water gets in (drips through an unfortunately placed seam and retention pin in the wiper/windshield cowl).

This discovery might be why Ford cancelled that earlier TSB. Regardless, the cover looks good!

I see the drip! Mine has a lot of foam there and I park downhill passenger side angle down so the water hopefully mostly goes downhill also.
But all the foam under the cowl eventually gets very wet.
I may just start parking facing uphill or I have a small level spot on my driveway I may utilize.
I also may change out the plugs earlier and more frequently. I absolutely overall LOVE my truck and have no kids so this is my baby and glad to over maintain it. ?
At least the engine cover will help with engine noise, right? ?
I actually don’t hear the engine much, actually, only some wind noise.
