So I was just talking to someone who had an Ecoboost 2015 explorer who's water pump failed and it was 8000 to correct. The problem? The water pump in the Ecoboost engine is inside the engine. So when it goes it leaks into the oil and kaboom. There you go. Any thoughts? Is the pump in my 2020 Xlt inside the engine?

Yes that is one of the Achilles heals of the 3.5 engines. Our 2.3s have an external (normal) water pump I believe and are not the same as the 3.5s.

Not sure when, but the 3.5 EB water pump was moved so it no longer leaks into oil.
My 2016 Transit's EB won't leak into the engine.

this is the parts breakdown, and if the photo is correct, its location on the motor
it's not internal.

Ok that's interesting it kinda off to the side. I would have guessed the water pump was in the center (4 hole pully mount) and I would have been wrong.
