Put truck in reverse and got the wrench light. Truck would not go into reverse. Will go into drive and go forward but no reverse.

Then got that message from Ford pass. Powertrain malfunction

200 miles from home. I'm going to take it to a Ford dealership tomorrow.

What kind of insight can y'all give me about this?

At this point, if I were in your shoes I would try taking the Neg. battery cable off , and leave it off for about 10 minutes and then put it back on and see if a reset fixes or changes the situation.

I think @rang19ca has a plan that simply can’t hurt. And if Chuck is right, why the heck is this even a solution for so many things with our vehicles?

I did that including a Neked Rain Dance and none of this helped...amazingly, $6,000 fixed everything...

I've had that happen. My suggestion is to only park in places you can pull through or roll backwards out of a spot.
Of course my vehicle was a '78 Chevy van in about '92.

Had to do the same on my old 2003 Mercury Mountaineer while waiting for the shop to be able to get it in to rebuild transmission! Think I had just a little over 100,000 miles on it at the time.

Ugh! Maybe it will be a simple fix. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

Regular warranty work holds no promise or obligation to provide a loaner or rental car so have a backup vehicle (no pun intended) before going in. All the dealer’s loaner cars may simply be out at the time.

There’s nothing worse than going in, finding out it will take quite a while to look at it, even longer to get parts, and that they have no replacement vehicle for you.

Good luck - fingers crossed that it is a quick, easy fix. ?

If you're under warranty, I'd take it to the dealer while it is acting up so that you don't get the ubiquitous "No Problem Found" when you come to pick it up.

I'm getting a rubber band shift into 3rd gear but it's only occasionally.

Taking it in soon but I'm trying to find a set of circumstances that will definitely reproduce the issue.

The transmission almost has a secret love language with me.

"This rubber band 3rd gear shift is just for us, no one else..."

Its most likely going to be a Valve Body or the CDF Drum but possibly the shift cable, you can try rocking the shifter (in reverse) to see if it will engage.

Do the reverse lights come on and does the rear camera come on - When in reverse?
If so, then it is internal to the transmission.
If not, then it most likely is the transmission range sensor or shift cable linkage

Update

This morning the wrench was gone and reverse was working.

Went to the dealership. Has code P2704. Evidently it has thrown this code multiple times every day for months that I was unaware of. Truck is at the dealership and I'm waiting to see what they come up with.
