22,000 on the clock and every once in a while get get a pretty good clunk when I put the truck into reverse, seems there is no consistency to when this happens. I seem to get it about 4-5 times a month, doesn't seem to matter if the truck is warm or cold, if I'm on a slope or level area. Other than that it drives great! I know some have mentioned perhaps checking the tranny fluid, anyone else experience this? I have an apt with a ford dealer on the 29th, guess they want it for 2 days. My fear is they won't be able to duplicate the problem....Thoughts??

I get that every now then when starting cold and shift into R to back out of garage...seems like I wasn't holding the brake enough while the engine is revving high while cold when this happens...otherwise, this doesn't happen elsewhere...not sure if this is what you're experiencing?

When it does happen I do have my foot firmly on the brake. Seems to happen hot or cold, level or on a hill. No rhyme or reason to it??

Ya come to think of it, mine's not a clunk but rather a lurch...due to not holding the brake firmly while engine is revving high...

Eric, I just had my 19 Ranger in for service and while there I wanted them to check trans fluid as I had clunking going into gear and 3-4 shift was harsh when cold. No codes or CEL. Tech replaced the valve body and added 12 quarts of fluid and it is as buttery smooth now as my 20 Ranger shifts. Shifts are barely detectable now. Not sure if it was the valve body or the correct fluid level but my hunch is it might have been the fluid level. Also the trans shifts into forward or reverse instantly without hesitation unlike it had before .I think they only dove into it was because I told them I have a 20 Ranger also that doesn't shift the same. There is also an issue some have with the lack of grease on the slip yoke ,my dealer says there is no TSB on that yet. Bret
