IMO, if you rely on the parts store to scan your codes, maybe don't work on it. The ODB-2 scanner they use is not going to give you info from more than emissions related issues normally. Get an OBD-2 to USB interface and run Forscan yourself, will get data from all the modules and when you pair that with the factory service manuals and electrical manuals, you can normally diagnose most issues, and decide if it's in your tool kit to perform the work.
I used to think the same thing, but I have to say the scan tool at my local AutoZone is now 2/2 with my sons girlfriends 2015 BMW. Her check engine light came on and it nailed the faulty sensor. Her father wanted the BMW dealer to fix it and they determined the exact same sensor was faulty and replaced it. BTW, that was big bill. The second time we used the AutoZone scan tool was to code a new battery. Kind of a long story, but her BMW battery only lasted a year. I think it dropped a cell since it was reading under 8 volts. The BMW parts dept refused to warranty the 1 year old battery. They insisted it had to go through their service department. They wanted $700 to do the battery replacement. If they needed to run any diagnostic tests it would have been extra. She did not have the money for that so off to AutoZone we go to pick up an AGM battery. We certainly were not going to buy another battery from the BMW dealer since they refuse to warranty it. My son has a scan tool that he purchased from Amazon but it would not allow use to properly code the Duralast battery. Because of this there were some electrical issues like the power windows not functioning correctly, etc. So, we drove the car to AutoZone and their scan tool properly coded that battery in a couple of minutes. I have to say I was impressed. Everything is now functioning correctly. I have no idea who makes the scan tool the guy at AutoZone was using, but it way better than the $130 scan tool my son purchased on Amazon.

Update on the new Ranger.
So far I love it. Getting used to the new screen and features has been tough.
A couple of things I don't like.
The rear view camera sucks compared to the 2019.
The headrests are horrible, you cant adjust the tilt on them.
The lane centering is a PIA so it's off.
Doesn't get the mileage the 2019 got.
But
The AEB works, yesterday this car stopped short in front of me and I got 2 beeps on the warning screen and the truck slammed on the brakes. I mean hard. so that works.
So so far so good.
Put a $22 cover on the back seat and it's perfect.
I put a BAKFlip MX4 cover on the bed and it may be coming off. The rail rubber seal on the cab end is unfinished and sticks up. I looked at some pictures of other BAKFlip MX4's and there is a trim piece that finishes the seal. I have a call into Real Truck to see what they are going to do.
Check out the pictures.

As far as lower MPG is concerned, winter blend gasoline has volatile chemicals added to aid cold weather starting, but also decreases milage. My 2021 started getting better milage after fully breaking in, about 2,500 miles.

RealTruck also carries Access soft tonneau covers. I've been very pleased with mine. It's going on 4 years old and still fits taught and the rip stick boarders still have the grip of death. Very little flutter at highway speeds and rolls up easily in cold weather.

Well I talked to customer service about the cover and they were of course no help. It turns out that when the redesigned the cover they left off the corner caps. SO called the dealer where I purchased the cover and it looks like he won't take it back. What a piece of crap. I need to look at there other brands and make sure not to buy any of there products.

I can always tell when the winter gas comes - I lose about 2-3MPG when it hits.

All of the major tonneau cover brands were acquired by private equity a few years ago and placed under the Truck Hero umbrella, which is now RealTruck.com.

Google AI said:
Truck Hero, now known as RealTruck, owns many brands that sell truck accessories, including:

  • BAK Industries: Known for its BAKFlip hard folding tonneau cover
  • Lund International: Known for its affordable and durable soft roll-up tonneau covers
  • Retrax: Known for its popular retractable tonneau covers, which are known for their precise workmanship and automatic operation
  • UnderCover: Known for its hard tonneau covers
  • TruXedo: Known for its tonneau covers
  • BedRug: Known for its tonneau covers
  • Extang: Known for its tonneau covers
Depending on which brand you consider, it may be that you'd still be working under the same customer service policies so double check the corporate ownership of any brand you're considering.

Access tonneaus are listed on Real Truck's website, but they are not part of Truck Hero, AFAIK, and they are available several other places. I got mine installed by my selling dealer when I bought the truck.

Access is not a RealTruck brand. It falls under Agri-Cover, Inc. which is a family owned company in North Dakota.

That's the private equity effect, IMHO. That piece of plastic isn't functionally necessary except to create a more finished appearance, so let's save the $0.05 it costs even as we jack the price by $300.00. Personally, I wouldn't be happy with that appearance. I might even point out it isn't as advertised if that picture form RealTruck is a current one. It might be worth reporting that to either the federal CFPB or your state equivalent.

When I had my shop, if a product didn't meet the customer expectations, we worked with our warehouse distributor to switch them into something that did. It doesn't sound like your current dealer is interested in doing that so, if the cover isn't leaking there, you may not have much recourse.

I can always deny the charge. Its a Reel Truck Company and that the problem to many hats under one roof. I should have bought it on Amazon then I could have returned it. If I have to keep it I will make sure that I beat all the bushes and post that picture on every social media platform that I can. It's beyond me what moron designed that. The guy or gal has to be a complete idiot.

The camera on the 2019 was clearer and brighter. I will get used to it or turn it off.

I live north of you in Broward, and started "looking" for a possible 2024 replacement for my 2019. I still owe on it but I am way to the positive relating to what's left versus what it's worth. I was looking in Lauderdale and WPB but the pickings are slim at the moment. Might wait to see what the prices look like when the 25's hit the lots. I love my 2019, but I do like the front grille redesign on the 24's.

When they parked my 2019 next to the new 2024 It thought is was a 150. Then they parked a 150 next to the 2024 it almost looked like a 150. I should have taken a picture. It is definitely a whole different animal.
