Our dealer pulled the same crap. Prior to special ordering, our salesman agreed to our terms of:
  • NO dealer add security/theft system
  • NO dealer stickers
  • NO nitrogen fill in tires
  • NO window etching for theft recovery
They notified us 4 days after the truck had been delivered. When we went to pick it up, it had all of the above. Their excuse was, "We do this to all of our new vehicles". We could have refused the truck, but we loved it and did not want to begin the process again. Especially after waiting for 5 months through the covid shutdown. Dealer didn't care if we refused it, they would have sold it easily.

In the end, they didn't charge for any of the above, removed the stickers, removed the theft system, replaced damaged lower kick panel that theft sensor was screwed into.

Bonus: We were able to keep the green nitrogen filled valve stem caps and etched windows
I ordered mine while it was still being assembled at the factory and before it arrived I insisted on the same thing..."no dealer add on's or no deal"! They agreed and even threw in a paint sealant protection package for no charge. This was during the peak of Covid so it was a buyer's market.

Here are some crappy pictures of the truck. So far I love it. Cant figure out the instructed cluster yet. One thing I HATE are the head rests. I cant seem to get comfortable with them. My 2019 had adjustable ones. I wonder if the old adjustable ones will fit.

Nope a Ranger on a Ranger.
The truck has almost 59K miles. So I would have had to buy another extended warranty. It's around $1500 for another extended warranty so I decided to get a new truck.
I am lucky I had the extended because just after the factory original warranty was up the AC took a dirt nap. They replaced the everything but the condenser to the tune of $6+k on the invoice, cost me $50.
If your Ranger was this unreliable, why did you buy another one?

Where did I say it was unreliable?
It was in the dealer for one repair. Nothing else but oil.
If the display goes your looking a a couple of grand.
Transmission like 6K
You name it parts and labor cost lots of money.
Another extended warranty was $1500 and for any of these newer vehicles are worth it.
The 2019 was a great reliable truck.
If It was a piece of crap I would not have gotten another Ranger!
I had the 2019 for 6 years.

I must have misread your post about a $6k repair bill that thankfully was covered under warranty and making it sound like it was mandatory to put an extended warranty on the vehicle. That did not sound like confidence in vehicle reliability.

These vehicles are not like days of old where all the gauges were mechanical, a bulb was a buck,
Gone are the days you could work on them yourself. I read an article where it said there were 1000+ semiconductors in a vehicle. I remember when it started for me I bought a 97 Dodge Dakota, opened the hood and said I the service guy "can I work on any of this stuff". He said all all u have to worry about is with anything yellow. I had that truck until 2007 and it never was back to the dealer for anything. AS well my 2007 Nissan is still sitting out front with 170K miles on it and black tape all over the dashboard covering up the flashing indicators. But it still runs. It's my beater. This new truck will probably never have the bed cover folded up.

When I purchased my Ranger, the finance guy told me how complex the vehicle was and only a certified Ford Tech could work on it. Of course, he was also trying to sell me an extended warranty and a service plan. Let's just say that I didn't agree with him. No doubt there are certain repairs that I would need or want the dealer to make. But, if you are handy with a wrench, and used to working on cars, there are a lot of repairs and maintenance items you can do on the Ranger yourself. Even if the check engine light comes on, you can run the Ranger down to the local auto parts store and their scan tool will tell you what is throwing the error code. Then you can make the decision to try to fix it yourself, take it to the dealer, or a private garage.

The finance person is the last shot they have at selling something. Some of the bigger dealers have a person just for the accessories like paint and interior treatments and other add ons and the lube they won't use when hosing you.

My experience with dealer finance people is that they suck with their crude abrasive tactics. Right up there with timeshare sales people.

I was concerned about being able to do my own maintenance on a new truck. My 1988 was a piece of cake. What I’m finding is that my 2021 is still a mechanical vehicle that I can confidently wrench on, it just has a lot more integrated electrical crap.

Yes, I could not agree more. Typically, the finance guys are the top performing salespeople at the dealership. They will gladly rip you off with a simile on their face.

IMO, if you rely on the parts store to scan your codes, maybe don't work on it. The ODB-2 scanner they use is not going to give you info from more than emissions related issues normally. Get an OBD-2 to USB interface and run Forscan yourself, will get data from all the modules and when you pair that with the factory service manuals and electrical manuals, you can normally diagnose most issues, and decide if it's in your tool kit to perform the work.
