Ive got a MXT575 radio that I am looking to install and trying to find the best place to put it. Right now easiest location I have found is under the passenger seat with it powered by the passenger side 12v outlet. I looked up under the dash and I dont really see any place it would fit there.

Anyone have suggestions on a better place to put it?

I mounted my radio on the kick plate just in front of where the fuse box is, under the knob controller for the headlights. My setup (btech) has controls on the actual unit itself and a screen so I can see which freqs I’m using. I needed it where I can see the screen and adjust the volume. The two options for mounting were either on the dash, where it’s always in the sun and visible, or out of the way and semi-hidden from view. Space is limited in these trucks, as I’m sure you know.

For my Frontier I installed mine in the Center Console. Did that with a MXT575, but now I'm running a GME XRS-330C. Yes it is less power, but the quality is much better on sound! Also it's made in Australia I stead of China like the Midland and others

I had the MXT275 mounted there and when I upgraded to a HAM (Icom 2730), I have it in the same spot. Under the passenger's seat works great. Plus, there is a grommet under the carpet to run wiring in from the engine bay.

Any details on where said grommet is?

You got my attention. Are you referring to the one up behind the glove box or is there one in the floor?

It's under the carpet, right under the passenger's feet. I brought the wires in from underneath, through the grommet, over to the side door floor trim and then back around under the seat. I sealed the grommet hole with silicon sealant that I had. You can see 1" of wire from the trim to the seat rail.

I tried to find pictures but, unfortunately, I can't locate them.

Good to know.

There’s also a firewall pass-through grommet for a wiring harness on the passenger side with a small, unused, ready for the taking, secondary grommet. It exits into the engine bay behind the coolant reservoir. You need to twist off a small tab to use it. I describe it better in the Wolfbox thread (link in my signature) but here’s a picture of it..

So I installed mine yesterday under the passenger seat. I used the passenger firewall plug which fit the antenna wire perfectly. Power and mic wire routing is temporary, I got this unit out of a trade in vehicle that had been hardwired in so I spiced in a 12v cigarette lighter plug and eventually I will hide it in the center console and cut out a spot for the mic extension to plug into.
