I'm considering an upgrade to the rear springs on my Ranger, and wonder if anyone can chime in with their experience. I have a 2019 FX4 Lariat, and have already swapped out the front coilovers and rear shocks with Eibachs, which provided a huge improvement to handling - especially off road. I've also swapped out the factory bump stops with some SumoSprings, as I occasionally haul heavier trailers (hauled my son's project car from Portland to Boise last spring, for example) and did not want the rear to sag excessively.

Now I'm interested in seeing if I can quiet down the sometimes harsh "bumpiness" of the ride, and I've seen in several threads that swapping the rear springs was almost magical in providing improvement. I'm considering either:

Icon Multi Leaf Pack
Ford OEM Tremor Springs

From what I can tell they are essentially the same setup, and provide more or less the same benefit. I am not interested in lifting the rear with something like the OME springs, I just want a more compliant ride, and something that will still accommodate the existing SumoSprings I have installed.

Is one substantially better/different than the other?
Are there other options I should consider?

Thanks!

Kimball, sorry I can't give advice on either. Maybe the Wildtrack set off of Ebay?
I'm just waiting for your DIY youtube video of how to change out the leaf springs :clock:

I'm interested in this as well, very much not impressed with the factory leaf springs. One perk i see to the Icon's is the option to add or remove leaves pretty easily depending on how much constant load is anticipated.

Shouldn't be any issues with the sumo springs, not like either option is magically incompatible with bump stops.

Ask @puda about his experiences.

He has a Tremor and I bought his leaf springs when he upgraded.

I believe he has gone through Icons, OME, and Deavers so he probably has some good insight.

I'm still tickled with the Tremor springs on mine.

Might want to consider the Alcan springs... they can build to order... with more lift, less lift, OEM height, etc. Multi-leaf design
https://www.alcanspring.com/our-product ( Grand Junction, CO )

There was a noticeable difference between the factory springs and the custom springs driving the same roads, which were blacktop city streets with cracks, potholes, etc. Mine are custom with 1" to 2" less lift. I also have the Bilstein 5100 shocks as was recommended. Which has the most impact on the resulting ride, not sure but I like it.

Just did the standard OME springs this weekend with a BDS shackle for a total 2.5" lift.

Holy cow it is a smooth ride. First truck, so I never realized how bad the bump stops were slamming before. Paired with BDS NX2 shocks it's butter smooth. Without lifting I think you still end up riding the bump stops.

It's a whole new beast and has me thinking of UCAs and LCAs in the future.

If you are not planning to lift the rear and still plan to Tow a good bit I would recommend either the Tremor Leaf Springs or the Deaver Leaf Springs. ICON Leafs won't be able to handle the load in the basic setting and if set to max they will lift the rear.

That's my input

third option could be the global ford OEM leafs. They have gone up in price and considered close to tremor springs for haft the cost. Everywhere else ranger gets a nice multi spring pack were we got shafted in the US. I got mine for 400$ish shipped from the UK.

I did Icons.

There are options, but choose wisely. Get greedy and the ride is not where you want to be aka VERY FIRM. Icon on slow city streets are not soft. Pick up the speed and no matter the surface it gets better as you go faster.

I love mine and there are give and takes. I tow a trailer too and I wanted a soft 4x4 ride, plus a performance sedan response. Got the better part of all three.

If you are doing it just for comfort, invest in a really good set of shocks to go with them.

PS... They will squeak or make noise no matter what you do, so just turn up the radio. Ok it's not that bad, but there is some when you have the window down and you are moving around slowly.

I have a 2023 XLT 2WD that is used for highway driving 100%. I changed the OEM Bridgestone Dualers HT (that were knocking the fillings out of my teeth) for BFG Advange T/A SPORT LT. 50% better ride, more sporty cornering, no noticeable additional noise. I would still like to lower the rear 2-3" but, as of 6 months ago, Eaton Spring didn't have the specs on them, maybe they do now.
