K&N Cabin Filter QA

Or remove the air filter for superior flow! Half kidding. I have 100k and never replaced mine. Im removing it today to look at it. Probably add it to my next rock auto order. Honestly didnt know we had one

When I replaced the last one this weekend, I removed the new filter and ran the AC, was actually noticeably better air flow, and actually reduced noise from the blower.

I do live in Vegas so there is a ton of dust (and literal trash in the bad parts lol) in the air so I do want to keep a filter but I am also not super concerned with tiny particles. I just don't want the evap or heater core to get leaves or something in it.

I ended up ordering the K&N so I will try it today when it arrives. I ordered a cheap Anemometer to test wind speed out of the vents. I figure I can technically use it for work purposes too so why not. Yeah I am crazy....

I have a K&N cabin filter. Clean it every oil change/5000 miles. I do not use the K&N cleaners...just soak it in a bit of Dawn/water and rinse it out. And I just use the filter...no spray...works just fine.
Lest you all worry about the filtration of the K&N that it might be letting bigger particles in....remember, it wasn't till just a few years ago that cabin filters came into being...
What about all those years when there were no filters, and even no AC.....rode around with the windows down....now everyone complains about the filter letting in particles so small you can't see em....

I recently learned that most of the other ford trucks didn’t have cabin filters till the last 6-7 years. I was shocked as my base model 2014 focus even had one!

I would definitely be interested in a before and after anemometer reading.

I think I will be starting a new thread so it can be found easily, but the WIX stock style I tested was basically the same results as the K&N, tied in some fan speeds and the ones it was behind was barely and margin of error.

They advertise performance and the it can be re-used, I only cared about performance though and it was at best within margin of error.

The main downside is the new k&n does give a funky smell, reviews say within a week it is gone but it is also more expensive. Not for me.

100k and never replaced your cabin air filter? I guarantee it will be dirty. They are really easy to replace. I put the date/mileage on mine so the dealer can't try to sell me on a new one.

Owner's manual says every 20k but other vehicles I've owned with them said every 30k and at 20k the Ranger's filter isn't really dirty. I've been changing it every 30k which for me is about every year and a half.

Until recently my daughter had a 2014 Fiesta. It's in the side of the console and difficult to change without losing the skin off the back of your hand.

I changed mine twice, at about 30 and 60k miles. Both times it was dirty. Still usable, but dirty.

Yeah I think that’s where the focus air cabin filter was as well. I guess in small cars there is not a lot of places for it to go. I know the few times I changed it I used two flatheads screw drivers to clamp it and get it out.
