"You will own nothing. And you will be happy." Be careful what you wish for.

It all starts by allowing government overreach and not resisting. The public has been tested by submitting to mandates that local state and federal governments have no authority to enforce.
The greatest form of resistance is non-compliance. But we all have to stand together.
They are our representatives, not our leaders. They are supposed to represent what the people want, not what their self-serving agendas desire.
We the people sent a message to the British about Government overreach and representation. It was called the Boston Tea Party.
Many dead soldiers and Marines rolling over in their graves right now because this current division and socialist agenda is not what they died for.
I hope I didn't go too far because I know this platform is not the place to express for this. One thing I like about this platform is that we all come from many different walks of life and many different opinions and political views and we don't muddy up what this platform is designed for. But as Americans, let's agree to disagree where we do and let it not interfere with what is being accomplished on this platform.

Semper Fidelis - U.S. Marine Corps
Semper Supra - U.S. Space Force
This We’ll Defend - U.S. Army
Undetermined - U.S. Navy
Aim High … Fly-Fight-Win - U.S. Air Force

Semper Paratus - U.S. Coast Guard

This reminds me of a rental Toyota that I had in Columbus OH.

The highways on the north side of town were under construction and the roads were pretty bad, with lots of the tar lines running everywhere across them.

I can feel the steering wheel tugging at me but this was early in the lane maintaining era so it didn't click what was happening.

Eventually the car pops up a warning in the dash with a picture of a cup of coffee saying "Maybe You Should Take A Break".

It had mistaken the tar lines weaving across the road for me wandering all over the road.

It would've been great if the system had decided I was drunk and pulled over to the side of the road and called the cops.

If the above mentioned system of in-car cameras gets deployed, I imagine it will also watch for using a cell phone/texting.

While I firmly believe that accidents would drop precipitously if all traffic inside a city was automated, the current generation would never accept it.

The generation coming up now would welcome it with open arms.
Agreed.

My truck tells me to "place my hands on the steering wheel" at least 5 times a day. And the lane keeping is just as janky.

Don't forget about the "druggies". Will have to incorporate a "pee funnel" to test for "stuff"
Great , one more thing you will have to do to get a car started when a dude with a chainsaw is chasing you.

Wow, this thread got off track.
This will not be breathalyzers, it will be camera based, just like all of the other driver awareness systems outthere (Granted more on EV's and vehicles with Level 2 automation)

Just as bad.

Again, Seeing how well the current systems work gives me little confidence.

Currently my truck will tell me to keep my hands on the wheel, or suggest a cup of coffee for no reason whatsoever other than a fault of it's own.

The camera has a hard time differentiating traffic lanes often enough it CANNOT be trusted to sense a normal traffic pattern, let alone what happens in construction zones.

What happens when this tech detects an allegedly impaired driver? Does it shut the truck down? Alert 911? Both? What happens when cops get there? If the "perp" isn't driving at the time is his vehicle used as a witness against him? What happens if the operator is just a shitty driver?

On top of the fact that the tech CANNOT be trusted there are A LOT of ethical questions raised here.

In all seriousness, I hand trust out to that which proves to be deserving of it.

While the current tech is helpful, it's far from reaching a level of dependability required to trust vehicles to perform law enforcement duties.

Thinking about it now it makes sense. These same people want to eradicate the police. Of course they want your car to perform traffic enforcement.

Get ready to start receiving tickets on your FordPass app.

one thing that is a guarantee, is that the courts will be years behind adjusting to the changes.
That's where the change needs to start first, in the courts. There's no need for any of this crap if the judges did their jobs. Nothing will change except more intrusion in our lives with this tech. I'm all for safety but this goes WAY beyond that. There's way to many instances where the driver has already been charged with multiple DUI's. This should never happen and will continue even with this installed if the penalties aren't stricter.

I wouldn't rule anything out - remember somehow in the US the production and sale of alcoholic beverages was banned for 13 yrs, and look how effective that legislation proved to be.

I think lawmakers should get more visionary and just ban the automobile altogether.
