Intake Valve Cleaning

Great information from everyone, I really appreciate it. I'll return the can of CRC since it's running and definitely do not want the risk of causing a turbo issue. I'll stick with top tier fuel and higher octane gas when I can afford it.

Just so you know, top tier gas or high octane gas won't help keep the intake valves clean in our 5G Rangers, because the gasoline never reaches the back side of the valves. We have direct fuel injection which sprays the gas directly into the cylinders, bypassing the intake valves. Only engines with port injection have the fuel mixture spraying on the back side of the intake valves.

Top tier gas is still a good idea, since it will help keep the injectors and piston tops clean.

You will be fine doing the service with CRC and other brands. The main thing is making sure it gets done correctly and at a regular interval. Like any other vehicle the key to keeping them on the road is regular maintenance and this is one of the things for the Ranger and many other vehicles.

Some chemicals can certainly be snake oil. Others not so much. That's why I trust only a few brands out there.

Sport Mode and a heavy foot... my valves look like Mr. Cleans shiny head and there is 0% fuel in my oil,...ZERO % i tell ya !

Yes - its really hard to say - how effective any cleaner is - without a Before & After Compare even with a - Professional Cleaning Solution, you are shortcutting (Cost) to achieve the main goal that I do not believe will do the same job as a walnut blast.
Would multiple - processes eventually provide the same result - IDK - this would take a dedicated owners - time - 1st pass - results - 2nd pass - results etc
IDK - if Project Farm has done this (yet)
Note: I have used - Seafoam in the past but never on a GDI engine and it does work for drivability issues.

I haven't used Seafoam, but I have used Berrymans B-12 along with BG Products. I have used a few others that were most likely useless as well. From experience I can say that both BG and Berrymans works well in the right place.

wait sorry that is the 100k service for the transmission. Carry on!

personally I would walnut only after I noticed some issues. I am at 140k miles with no cleaning and still pulling 24mpg or better (slightly) on highway runs.

I'm very happy with our 40K mile '19 Ranger, but there are several shoes I'm waiting to drop. Like the 10R80 issues and now this. I've taken all proactive measures for the tranny. Real failure % data on any common problem would be a help in deciding to take preventative measures.

For what it's worth, the carbon build up is natural on Direct Injection Engines. Doing the regular maintenance is just part of owning one of these things regardless if it's a Ford or not. This isn't like the HVAC Box Warping or the Transmission taking a dump. I can also state that I have seen other vehicles with Direct Injection that were way worse.

I haven't heard of this being a problem with 5G Rangers. I wouldn't worry about it. If you have symptoms develop with the idle, and plugs or ignition coils aren't the problem, then look into excessive intake valve deposits.

When I get some time to - Play - I may visit this and scope again.
Last scope @ 8700 - playing with scope , not a detailed one.
Just want to provide a base data for our Rangers to see how much is actually accumulated.
With work (busy) and home projects (busy) it’s hard to find time to - play - I have my Kitchen Cabs arriving next week , tidying up my wire runs , so city inspector can give me - ok to close - my walls.
Ended up rewiring the whole kitchen circuit and splitting off how the existing was originally wired- to the panel.
Bringing all up to current code plus rerouting my plumbing, while everything is open.
I need to squeeze time in for an Oil Change as I am due. Once the drywall goes up - it’s all downhill from there- I am in process of a full kitchen remodel and went down to bare walls

I finished our 800 sf basement at our river house ending up with a 3rd bedroom and a 2nd bath. Some tear out, but nothing like your project.
2x4 fir out over R1 Formular fan fold. I hired an electrical contractor to upgrade the house to 200 A service. Inspection required. I took over the wiring from there. Rural "county" work, so no inspection. But I did the work to code, including those pricey, PITA arc fault breakers.
When it was time for the trim, I had 14 level spinal fusion. ...getting most of the heavy lifting done on the old spine.
