Oops I meant the middle pipe in the muffler
Phew! I thought I was going crazy(er)! But there's a spring loaded doo-dad in the muffler, huh? I would assume that WOT amounts of exhaust would push it open? Seems silly, but there's those NVH guys, again.

I thoroughly enjoy how quiet my truck is, especially going down the road at 2100rpm with 7psi of boost while towing. The drone of it would be horrendous without such a nice, quiet muffler. I'll leave the noise to the bikes in the trailer.

The dynomax super turbo is nearly as quiet as stock. It makes just a little noise on startup and a very deep tone when accelerating in say a parking garage or freeway underpass. Otherwise there's no other discernable difference in sound levels.

Agreed. Dynomax Super Turbo is blessed on 4cyl motors.

I finally cut open my stock muffler to see what was in there. I sketched in how the exhaust gas travels through the muffler. It was interesting, I previously knocked out the one inch restrictor at the end of the inlet pipe and I was not able to find it when I cut open the muffler!? My best guess would be that it exited the muffler, but i find it very unlikely that it traveled through the spring loaded valve in the midpipe. The valve is spring loaded in the closed position.. Looks pretty restricted in my opinon!

Yep, just ditch that restrictive piece of garbage and motor on! I did and don't regret it one bit and my pickup is not loud at all.

What differences do you notice without it ?

Which one would I need to replace the stock muffler on my truck?

I live just down the road from summit and can get a local shop to weld it on.

I had my muffler removed and left the resonator in. Any increase in sound is only noticeable under acceleration. It doesn't sound anything like a V8 because it isn't. :like:

Hi Folks,

There is quite a bit of science in producing a muffler.... The days of the straight through "glass Pack" mufflers are gone... The diameter of the louver tubes, the hole diameter of the perforated areas are there for a reason.... First is package space.....then muffler tunning takes an amazing amount of testing before the final design and sign off it meets the plethora of requirements from back pressure, Federal Pass by noise etc are met.... I leave well enough alone, and keep the stock exhaust as it performs well....

Best,
Phil

A little bit quicker response on throttle and can definitely hear it better. My exhaust does not exit behind the tire anymore but turns down right before the receiver hitch which cleans up the rear end a bit.

Thank-you for showing this. Today when I got to work I noticed what looks like a frayed rope hanging out of the end of my exhaust pipe. It kinda looked like a weave (lol).

I pulled on it and it was like 9ft long. After looking at the F150 forum and your pictures... I'm sure it's glass pack from the muffler. Why it would come out is beyond me. It's a 2019 barely 40k, driven 2x a week to work at 70-75mph, and driven in central Florida (No rust).

I've got an appointment at the dealer and he says it's covered 100% (CPO plus extended warranty purchased). Just wondering why it would happen? I'll report back when I get an answer from Ford Garage.
