i just sleep in the passenger seat with it reclined. done it many times. then again, i'm only in my 30s.. perhaps the days of sleeping any place i can recline are numbered.
Believe me, when you hit 60 or 70 your body will tell you about all the abuse you put it through in your younger years, when you thought you were invincible. Ask me how I know.:wink:

This one looks like Cletus and Jethro rigged it up out of scraps from their double wide, but I do like the price.

This is exactly what I have. My setup with the softopper needed some creativity to give me a frame since I don't have a glass window to support the top. But some PVC pipe and fittings solved that. I wish I had photos of it but it works great for camping in the bed and being able to spread out a little bit.

I'm 6' and have slept under the tonneau cover (when it's well below freezing I prefer that over the tent really), but head to the tailgate, the stock rake of the truck makes the back the higher part and more comfortable to have your head. I also have a bed tent and the extra length with the tailgate down is nice as it does allows for the cot to go in long way and storage under the cot for some things. I do have a bed rug in the bed that is nice for which every setup I'm using. With the Jackery and an electric blanket, it's all comfy.

I'm perpetually 5'11.99" tall. At 40yrs old, I still keep measuring just in case. One time on a DL application I wrote 6' and I felt like such a liar, couldn't live with myself.
You're 40, stop. Soon you'll see the number going the other direction from how you want to see it go.

From an insulation standpoint I can imagine that's really cozy, however, for myself, I can't imagine a world where I don't forget where I went to bed and have a full blown panic attack in the middle of the night when I wake up in a coffin

Does anyone have any ideas to keep out the bugs and rain? These short beds aren’t really conducive to camping out in.
IMG_2685.jpeg
Fiberglass window screening? Or maybe one of those magnetic garage door screens for the bugs. Can u set up one of those pop up canopies that would fit over part of the bed and tailgate for rain? As long as it's not a blowing rain...otherwise some hvy duty contractor plastic?

I bought these on Amazon this summer to use with a uv resistant tarp to cover my fishing boat. Should work on heavy plastic also.

Way more than what you're probably looking for, but if you do a lot of truck camping, this Super Pacific X1 is amazing. Only had it a couple months, but slept in it nine nights so far.

Boom. Solved. Might have to curl up a bit.
we long-legged friends have of course tried it out. unfortunately we get our heads stuck between the wall and the wheelhouse. we can't really move our legs and are lame the next morning. that's fine for a drunken night, but not for a fulfilling and relaxing camping holiday.
