I just found huge mold in sound insulation and carpet liner (I removed the trim to show...it's covered normally)

How could this occur at that spot? It's in such an odd location.

I haven't spilled anything, but there were large rains in california this winter.

I'm assuming this is warranty work, right?
(Sigh...another issue on this vehicle)

It should be covered IF they can find an entry point for water that shouldn’t be there. If they cannot, they may push it back on you.
  • window open
  • pressure washer
  • spilled liquid
  • drove in deep water
  • etc.
Hopefully, they find the source of the leak and take care of it for you. Fingers crossed.

Thanks. I had none of those things...
I certainly believe you, but Ford could suggest any of those things as the reason, regardless of whether or not they occurred. Wishing you the best on this and hoping it’s as simple as a door seal.

Yikes! That sucks.
Good luck and hopefully Ford will not push the blame back on you. But that seems more than a mere operator issue. Even when I had a leak in my rear window on my F150 for over a year, I never got mold like that so my guess is this is something structural with the cab.
is this a 2022 with the windshield recall - someone correct me if I am wrong with my recollection - wasn’t it a seal issue? If so could water have been leaking down the A pillar and settling where the OP has the mold?
I had a friend who had a hole in the floor of his Hyundai (circa pony crap years) - not to hard to figure out why his carpet was wet. But then Hyundai really sucked back in the 80’s.
Keep us informed of what the reason it ends up being - if they or you figure it out.

this is a 2021 (march 2021). I'm not sure if there's a seal issue with the windshield, but i can say with 100% confidence there's a seal issue somewhere :D

id be quite honest, if i saw that in my truck id trade it in. Damn near a hazard breathing that stuff in and finding the source is always fun.

does it have mold or damp spots in any other places?
this is where the dealer roulette begins. its already known these trucks had leaks on some due to factory issues with windshield seals, rear window seals, heater system, and others. not to be a downer but basically the dealer will make or break this as warranty or not with little care of the real issue. dealers do not like warranty work. they really do not like warranty work that times up time. it costs them money. the worst part of owning a ford is ford dealers are part of the works.
