Is the gear indicator on the right / entertainment screen new as part of a software update, is it part of something I didn’t know to activate, or am I just oblivious 2400 miles in?

And in any case, what’s your country song?

This is new to me too. I've only had my truck a little over a week and I haven't discovered that feature yet either.
read pg 159 and 160 of the manual, as it is slightly more complicated than hitting + or - on the Transmission selector lever. Driving in Sport vs Drive has a different effect.on transmission logic.

Just remember when you're in S mode and hit the + it will turn it into manual mode. You now have to keep hitting the +/- to shift or it will redline. Ask me how I know? If you don't touch the +/- in S mode it will automatically shift.

If there is one thing on the Ranger the sales folks don't understand, it is this. I must have heard 10 different explanations from 10 different people that were all partially correct in a different way.

My salesman never told me and at some point I accidentally hit the +. Now I'm going up a steep onramp like a bat out of hell in 2nd gear waiting for it to shift and approaching red line. lol I just bumped it back up into D and once home came on here and searched and found out you now have to keep pressing the +.

Okay Dave,

Think about how many cars, Trucks and models of each with all the different features that they might have...and you are the Salesman having to remember all this??? I may have been able having been accused of having a photographic memory....but not now...I simply could not do this. The complexity is overwhelming.

My wife, Maggie....Um ..... Ah ...oh yeah...Margie has noticed this.... :)
Best,
Phil

Hi Phil,

Well seeing as my salesman was their "truck specialist" He should've known and told me about this feature. Plus Ford did away with all their cars (except the Mustang) and just sell trucks, vans and SUV's now and every Ranger has this feature. :)

Also he was young, maybe 30 at most so he's not old and forgetful like us. lol Yup, I expect them to know the features and explain it to their customers just like I'm expected to know all the ins/outs of my job.

Yeah this has been there since the beginning. I like to turn it on since I can see what gear the truck is in. One time I saw the truck bounce between 3rd and 8th for some weird reason. It only happened once but it was interesting to see.

The real question's answer is twofold:
I'm so Lonesome I Could Cry - Hank Williams
City of New Orleans - Arlo Guthrie

There was stopped traffic ahead so I decided to downshift, see how it felt. Well,
seems u can go quite fast in 4th before noticing your in the 'wrong' gear, I had no idea
it would not shift up.

I can't remember the song name but it's the one about the dog.
