So are you implying that boosted vehicles will have a ‘fuel’ smell in the oil? Lol.

But I will say the level has stayed the same. I drove the heck out of her over the weekend.
Yes, my direct experience over the years of moding na and boosted Mustangs. Racing 1/8th and 1/4 mile tracks. It's all relative and inherent to boosted applications that cant be avoided. Foot to floor = more boost. More boost = increased cylinder pressures. More cylinder pressures = more blowby of the cylinder rings thereby = more fuel deposits into the crank case on a molecular level. That's one way, not even discussing the PCV route that can occur as well. My na applications would as well but over a greater period of time as the ole suck, squeeze, bang was under lower cylinder pressures.. I have personally witnessed on of my boosted 4.6l with a cracked ring on cylinder 4 and cylinder 3 with a hammered piston run for another 6 months at highway speeds after I took the supercharger off. Would not build compression on cylinder 4 at idle but would with increased RPM. I had a bet with a friend how long it would run while I built the next engine. I won, dang lil 4.6 never let go however, yes the oil wreaked of fuel.

Perfect that yours didn't increase the oil level. Trust me I'm still keeping an eye on my Ranger as well. I'm not saying that the Rangers don't have an issue as others have stated in this thread. The only way to gauge it is by oil level as each person's olfactory is different and not an accurate gauge if something is truly wrong.

I'm curious, was it in the hash marks or at the max fill hole? Did you wait at least 15 minutes before checking?
Slightly above hash mark, but below top hole. And no, the truck had idled for about five minutes, and then I checked.

Oil Level on our Ranger, factory fill synthetic blend. From when we picked it up with 3 miles on it... until first oil change at 3,686 miles.

Take a photo: it's a great way to compare if things have changed.

@ 2,200 miles the oil looked like this:

At 1,900 miles and with a nice amber hue I preferred waiting for the first change, but that's not how it went yesterday. I now have a fresh fill with 5w20, if I'm to believe the invoice.
WOW!! A ford dealer, listed putting in the wrong oil, on a vehicle under Basic warranty???!!!

They comped it, but somehow I don't feel any better. I've gone from a bit of concern but a willingness to watch to obsessing over the wrong oil. I should have pushed for us to first check the oil in their 3 lane prep area before it getting taken back to the tech. I have no idea if that person actually looked at it first, or if they just thought they were appeasing me.
 Why I don't take anything to the dealer that I can do myself. I'd have insisted that they drain the oil, install new oil and a new oil filter. Their mistake, they should have corrected it.

Yes, quite shocking. And an opportunity to lament the situation afflicting all new car sales, which is how warranty work is funded. Flat rate auto techs are at the bottom of the hill that has shit constantly rolling down it.

Well, the discussion over having evidence in the event Ford doesn't want to honor its warranty has been flogged to death forever, so I won't go there right now. As far as the mistake is concerned, I'll probably just drive it for the 1k miles they want me to and suck it up with respect to whether the loss of lubricity (or whatever it's called) for such a short time frame will cause any significant wear. I'm already wasteful enough. If the truck isn't "making oil", then I'll either pay them for an oil change or bring it home and use the Mobil1 I have in the garage. Or the Kirkland if I can find where it meets the Motorcraft WSS-M2C946-B1 spec, since they choose not to provide full specs online and I've yet to break the cardboard open so I can look at the jug. Again, warranty.

Won't it void the warranty to run the wrong viscosity oil in the engine? The manual may be poorly written, but it's very clear that 5w-30 and 0w-30 are the only oils you should be using. I'd be much less worried about any minuscule damage caused by the oil itself as I would be by the potential for Ford to use this as an excuse to avoid responsibility for any unrelated problems you might have with the engine, since you've now got a paper trail (through a Ford dealer, no less) showing that you're using 5w-20 instead.

An angle I failed to consider, so thanks for pointing it out Joe.

I'm going in to have the parts put in for the recall. I had my oil changed at 1100 miles and looked at the invoice and also noticed they used 5W-20 instead of 5W-30...so I will inquire and see if that is a change of some sort

Not according to the current iterations of the owners manuals. 2020 is https://www.fordservicecontent.com/...d=7376&vFilteringEnabled=False&userMarket=USA and 2019 https://www.fordservicecontent.com/...d=6478&vFilteringEnabled=False&userMarket=USA

Would be interested to know a head count of how many people are having this issue, how many have called ford, and how many have sent their oil in to have it tested.

I have done all three. At this point waiting for the results. Ford is aware of my issue and waiting for results.

Agree. Is it possible to set up a wiki post? Would be nice if people could put in negative results as well (oil tested and minimal fuel dilution).
