So, as you know when in 4x4 the auto start-stop function is disabled. I’m up in Alaska and for most of the seven months of winter I drive in 4x4H. I find it odd that the auto start-stop function is disabled when in 4x4, what possible bearing does two more hubs locked into the drive train that has to do with starting the vehicle? Am I missing something?

If anyone knows how to enable the auto start-stop to function in 4x4 within FORScan, or disable the auto start-stop feature when switching to 4x4 please let me know.

I understand that typically in 4x4 our heaters and heated seats are on which puts a small strain on the battery, however I would think that in hot places like Arizona you would have the air conditioner blasting, stereo going and in 2H the auto start-stop function would work just fine, which brings me back to what possible bearing does two extra locked hubs have to do with disabling the auto start-stop ability?

No, Anchorage surface streets, major boulevards, stop light to stop lights, etc.. Basic city start stop driving/traffic.

You realize 4x4’s are used in other situations in other states. Why program or design a vehicle just for Anchorage ?

I don’t want to redesign my vehicle to a specific area/location, I just want to know if anyone out there knows what setting within FORScan might, or could enable/disable the auto start-stop function in 4x4 while driving on snow and ice on city surface streets.

You also asked why it was that way. I provided you an answer.

I guess the answer to your question is: there is no Forscan option to enable ASS in 4WD. Most people keep looking for ways to turn the annoying thing off. That we can help you with.

Now we’re getting somewhere. I was hoping that someone would have more knowledge than me with FORScan. I actually like the auto start-stop feature; I just wish that for my daily driving on surface streets with snow and ice, it would be nice to have the option.

Unfortunately, I don’t have access to explicit documentation with FORScan. I wish that I had a comprehensive line-item by line-item document that showed every option/value within each setting.

I absolutely would not want a working Auto Stop/Start in any vehicle but especially a turbo. If that's what you want, you may find it here: https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/forscan-crowdsourced-wiki.2008/

Congrats on being the first person ever to actually WANT ASS...(oooo that looks bad once I read it...) There are long lights where I am OK with it, but other than that, it is an intrusive "feature", especially in parking lots where it can cause your car to surge as you are trying to gently adjust it into a parking spot. Fortunately my Ranger does not have it (yea chip shortage!), but my summer car does, and I have to hit the "off" button every time I start it. It has become so routine that I rarely think about it now. At a long light i occasionally flip it back on.

I would guess the first person to want ass would have been Adam when Eve strutted by.

(dozxab) Dave, thank you very much for the link to the partial FORScan documentation, after looking it over I didn’t find anything specific to my original inquiry, however I found the Traffic Sign Recognition, and it works awfully well…. thanks again…

Glad it helped with something anyway. There are a lot of parameters that will turn off the auto stop start. Even if you're stopped and turn the wheel it will start the motor back up.

I remember that from exploring my girlfriends 2018 F-150 when she first bought it. All kinds of conditions disabled the auto start-stop, from turning the steering wheel to having a load on the trailer hitch plug.

My original love for it was for engine break-in…
