Retired, work is a four letter word.
Flashbacks to the Ford V8 Spark Plug fiasco in the 4.6 and 5.4 Triton motors. Some dealers charged customers to remove the heads to remove broken spark plugs. Another one of Fords brilliant ideas. For those that haven't see a F150 spark plug, on a 3v head they go into the aluminum head where they would rust in place causing them to break off when you try to remove them:

Oh Crap! I have a 3v Triton V10 in my 2016 RV, hope that was fixed by them

Although I have an engine cover, I also park in my driveway nose up about a degree or two and no issues (knocks wood).

I wonder if how our trucks are parked comes into play, ie. nose down or flat surface? For when getting wet/raining is what I’m thinking particularly, can’t really say for the drier areas…

This is a slam dunk legal case. Just find a few people with the same problem and you have a class action suit or file in a small claims court. A: Ford is aware of the problem via service notes and complaints. B: A substantial number of poeple have experienced this problem. C: Ford discontinued the part that would help prevent this problem. D: Ford refuses to fix this problem. Depending on where you live, you could recover all or a large portion of the costs via small claims court.

Long story short version. Bought my 2019 Ford ranger brand new put a small leveling kit on it with some decent tire size tires. Specifics are in my profile. Babied this truck. Maintenance followed routinely. I’m 46 years old little to no where in tear I actually drive like a grandpa. Fast forward to one month ago. Driving on the highway started having hesitation took it straight to Ford in the computer said it was misfiring. Very next day it was determined that my spark plugs were rusted and one of them was seized in the engine. My buddy who is one of the service managers called me and asked me if I had some submerged my truck or off roaded. Neither nor. Told me it would be $600 to replace the plugs. Two days later he called me and told me they couldn’t get one of the plugs out. Now it was gonna be $1300 to replace the plug and the coil. Three days later, they still can’t get the plug out Five days later the plug still won’t come out now they need to replace not only the coil but the head and it was going to take 22 hours of labor. It is now $2300. They were telling me worst-case scenario might be $3200. Turns out on this forum It was determined that is an engineering flaw. Ford is telling me that the reason my spark plugs are rusted because I’ve over washed my truck. They refuse to cover any sort of work. I have 61,000 miles on my truck and I’ve called the customer service line where they were complete, jerks and again refused to cover any of the work, there is a TSB bulletin that tells Ford to put an engine cover on trucks, such as mine to prevent water vapors from getting into the spark plugs. Ford knows there is an issue I now haven’t had my truck for over three weeks. Luckily, my friend who owns the dealership is willing to buy it from me. Still uncertain of the total cost or afford will cover anything. We are in a scenario where we are challenging the decision. Bottom line I just got a Tacoma today

if there’s anybody who’s experiencing the same sort of dilemma, or issue with rusted spark plugs, please message me I’m curious. As of now, I will never buy another Ford or recommend another Ford to any human being on this earth that I encounter. Otherwise, I absolutely loved my ranger and I’m sad this has happened.
Same thing happened to my youngest daughters Ford Escape. 2 1/2 months 3 differnt shops and a long block later she had her Escape back. Oh and about $5,500 dollars.

Anyone though about applying some type of high heat lubricant about the spark plugs? This might help prevent rust?

Kroil and or mouse milk - soak - run engine to temp or heat it up - not glowing red - and a breaker bar - it will come out
or bump it with a impact gun, the you do the v8's that way

This situation sucks! You can't trust Ford or its warranty.

My takeaway is:
1. After every washes, shop vac the sparkplug "bores".
2. With every oil change, remove the coils AND the plugs (using the shop vac just before removing the plugs). Vac again before putting them back in.
3. If you don't have a cover, GET ONE.

A PITA, but only way to protect yourself. Know what I'm doing this weekend.
just change the plugs every year there cheap enuf ....... motorcraft are 6.49 each on rock auto ... and with the ecoboost mooters there hard on plugs anyway, has the SHO before the ranger and did plugs on that every 12 months or 15k on the ranger w tune do them every 12k with i step colder plug

Almost 150k supercharged miles on my '08 mustang. Still on the original driveline from the block to the axle. I hate to use anecdotes, but running an engine at 150% of the stock power output for 15 years is one hell of a margin test. It still smokes most other sports cars available today.

My Ranger has had a shit ton of problems, but I've never had an issue getting repairs covered. Seems like OP needs to find a new dealer.
Most of us fell victim to the plastic timing chain tensioners with the printed seal blowing out on the driver side and wiping out the passenger cam and head on the 4.6 3V motors before the 90k mile mark. I still have my 09 GT Mustang though and added a supercharger when I rebuilt it.

on the older rangers also timing chain guides went at 60/ 70 k the rear was a bitch to do and the rear was always the one to fail....

Very Stupid, Ford. Probably lost a customer for life, along with anyone you talk with. Stupid greed costs way more than great customer service.

why don't you sue them in small claims? I so do tired of hearing how manufscts have just become Tyrants once again with warrantee issues. like $50 to file and Ford can't send a lawyer. bet you win.

My engine cover arrived yesterday. I ordered the studs/nuts per the TSB, but there was a package of two stud and nut sets included. Apparently this comes with the cover and I didn't need to order them separately? The part number of the bag is L1MZ6A949CSUB, which calls up the cover when I searched for it.

When you bought the 'old' cover, you had to buy hardware separately. The 'new' cover comes with it.

Anti-Seize and for engines go together like peanut butter and jelly in all Ford designed engines. PB Blast is also a tool box item if you own a Ford, sad to say that these are poorly designed as it pertains to the dissembler metals they use in their engines, that was the problem with the 5.4. I would soak the plugs in my 5.4 with PB Blast and run the engine for about 15 minutes and they would come out without to much of an issue. Sorry this happened and now it is on my mind so I will be pulling my plugs just to clean, coat and re-install. Ford is having a rough time right not and they just continue to shoot themselves in the foot.
