Just checked it again today after sitting in the garage 2 days so it's cool and drained back. Up about 3/8 inch and stinks.Mine was around 1/8” plus over and it tested at 8% fuel which equates to around 14 oz.
Eeewwww. It would be interesting to see what that tests at. But it’s obvious there’s something going on. Make sure the dealer sees it likes this. Elevated level that much with 2000 miles is NOT normal. Sadly you have to force the issue. When I showed my dealer my oil sample at 8% fuel with 534 miles on the oil they tried the same crap. One of the service advisors handed me this “ fuel dilution guideline” sheet. When I told them that mine was double of the severity level 4 with only 534 miles I got the deer in the headlights look. They didn’t know what to do. Long story short what got them to do something was the elevated level at low mileage on the oil. I think if they say it's normal, I will just dump it for something with a V8. Seems like Ford Dealers have so many problems to deal with and not enough competent techs to handle them so they just pass it off as normal. I just read that Ford is discontinuing the 2.7 that was the most reliable F150 truck engine and switching everything over to the 3.0 that has been a problem since introduced. They actually are bringing back the 5.0 in higher trim F150s also. Apparently the 3.5 twin turbo long term maintenance is extremely expensive with all the plumbing, turbos, and extra sensors. Turns out the current 5.0 is cheaper to keep in the long run even with lower MPG and a good engine after the last update. The 3.5 F150 Platinums are sitting with no buyers at this point apparently. It’s not a common problem but it does exist. My dealer and the tech hadn’t seen it before on the Ranger. I had even messaged Mason at Flying Wrenches YouTube channel to see if he had seen it before and they hadn’t. "No longer" was it ever? My current Ford - the Ranger, is probably the least troublesome of all the long string of Fords I have owned. For a start at 10 years old it's the first which actually hasn't rusted out somewhere, or shed bits of trim, and doesn't leak. I accepted these annoyances because the engines and powertrains were always reliable and strong. If as it seems that even that no longer applies....Quality is no longer Job 1, apparently.
I must agree, but I own a diesel. Even the 3.2 Ford powerstroke in my Range which is actually a pretty clean burning diesel, the oil is black about 5 minutes after a change.That's the cleanest looking oil I've ever seen being that it has miles on it. Almost bizzare.
