Not sure that is considered stolen if you leave the key in it.
Had a friend have an insurance claim denied because the vehicle was in fact recovered with no sign of ignition tampering. He had a spare key hidden on the frame, which was what the thief used. So, the vehicle was not ‘secured’ properly.

Have you ever noticed the fine print on policies starting where the car is ‘parked’ or ‘garaged’? This is tie in to BS ins companies getting away with not paying claims. Caveat, they do this to protect from fraud as well.

A real problem with these Rangers is the door unlock button gets easily pushed when in your pocket. I purchased some small baby socks that I put on my remote when in my pocket. I am still looking for a better solution that is not so bulky. If you are leaving your truck in a bad area you can remove a major fuse from the fuse box under the hood and take it with you. I created my own lock box somewhere (i aint telling on the internet). It requires welding, drilling, and fabricating to make. The problem with the hitch lock is you cant use the hitch for its real purpose and the thieves already know about it. ?

I just went through a similar issue where I misplaced my keys and 24 hours later my truck was taken for a joyride. The next morning when I noticed it was missing I tracked it's location via GPS and recovered it. Everything seems to be ok except for the mess inside (cigarette ash, food, trash, dirt, spilled drinks, etc).

Suspecting that someone still has my key I went to Ford to get an estimate for a new key and reprogramming my spare. They told me I couldn't use my spare (which is not true) and that I would need two brand new keys. The total cost for the service was north of $700. I told them I would continue to do my own research and get back to them if necessary.

After reading OPs post in this thread I took a similar approach, sourced a replacement key online, located a local mobile locksmith, and gave them a call. It turned out he had the key I needed in stock so I didn't need to order it online (in which case he would also guarantee it) and was able to meet me at my house within an hour to perform the service.

Long story short, I was able to get a brand new key (aftermarket) rekeyed and reprogrammed along with my spare for a total cost of $240 out the door all within a couple of hours. My missing key can still be used to get into the locked vehicle but it will not be able to start the engine. I'm also hoping the alarm will sound when they try to enter the vehicle (can anyone confirm?).

In any case, I hope this info helps anyone else who finds themselves in a similar position.

Not sure yet
Figure out where the fuel pump relay is, make a kill switch. Won't happen again.

Realized i brought up an old thread after posting ?
Back in the day we wired in a simple toggle switch in-line from the power to ignition as a kill switch. Was curious if anyone here was able to do the same?? With all the modern tech that is on here these days, I wouldn't want to create a surge or interrupt a crucial line.

truth is if they want it they will get it. all these cool products we see as owners like hide a key boxes and foil wraps etc. thugs and thieves also see... they have the internet too lol. they likely spend more time looking around for ways to make life easier them than we spend making it harder for them. if someone steals mine i dont want it back. i want a fat ass check from the insurance company for replacement cost and the goodies i had in it. i will not admit to stealing a car or truck since i eventually brought them back... however, i did in fact drive them like i stole them. as would the folks that dont intend on giving them back.

You have got to wonder how they started the truck without a programed PATS key. Push button start can be hacked, but key start is almost impossible.
He left the key in the truck. He's lucky he found it undamaged because insurance won't cover vehicles stolen with the keys in them.
