^^This^^. The tune smoothed out the shifts. Plus the extra power is so much more fun when you blow away a full size Super Duty and they're left in the dust scratching their head. lol
Right up until you hear their turbo spool up louder than a jet engine :LOL:

Which 350? There were several. What was the engine RPO? LM1, L65, or L48?
That's what I'm getting at- there were three 350s available for the Camaro in 1969, and two of them were low-performance 2-barrel engines. It's always been popular to modify those cars into something they weren't. That's why there are more '69 "Z/28" Camaros today, than Chevrolet ever built.
It's a real numbers matching Super Sport. There was only one 350 available if you picked the SS.

Engine Block Stamping, 350 cu. In. / 300 hp
T0520HA
TO = Tonawanda NY Assembly plant
0520 = May 20th
HA = 350 ci / 300 hp L48

You could only get one 350 in the SS

Is it a real SS? Those cars have always been very popular to fake.

The "300 horsepower" 350 (RPO L48) would be about 225 actual net horsepower...

Let's get real- how about the first "muscle" car, the 1964 Pontiac GTO.

Motor Trend tested one when they were new. There were a lot of shenanigans when it came to GTO tests. Royal Pontiac was famous for preparing modified "ringers" to pass off to magazines as stock GTOs. This particular test was believable. The 325-horsepower 389 4-speed car ran a 15.8 at 93 mph. Any one of our Rangers would have eaten it for lunch...
Correct -motortrend said about the Ranger " A 15.2-second standing quarter mile at 91.3 mph means getting on the freeway is no chore" ....I wonder what they run with the performance tune.

Well our trucks are quick, but most things are in this age. Before '21 I travelled 100% as a consultant for pharmacy automation. I am top tier with all major airlines and hertz/national/avis as rental cars. I got to drive LOTS of different vehicles for years, and there are some real sleepers out there.

But as for the "old" muscle not being as fast as people think, that's partially true. Yeah the HP numbers were inflated - but a lot were completely misrepresented WAY too low as well. Those were different animals though. The comparison is a true apple to orange blah blah.

Take my Dad's 1969 Corvette. Completely stock L68 427 and 4 speed. Rated at 400hp/400lbft with the factory 3x2 intake. It will (traction willing) hit 60mph in 5.5 secs and roll the 1/4 mile at 13.7ish seconds EVERY SINGLE TIME. best past was 13.05@111mph. He has time slips spanning decades to prove it. That is is not the "norm" for that model, but his example has been rock solid since he bought it and 40k miles on it. That's actually L88 territory if you want to look it up. Point is, there is always "that one" that will surprise you.

Guy I used to work with had a 1969 Camaro with the 302 "Z" block and it was pretty strong.

He said one time he came up to the light next to a Gremlin that had nice wheels and tires and sounded pretty good so he threw the guy a rev.

He then said that when the opposing light turned yellow the "good" sounding Gremlin suddenly sounded like Godzilla just woke up. The guy had cutouts and was running a built AMC 401.

The Gremlin smoked him like a cheap cigar. He met the guy at the gas station down the road and was thoroughly humbled and impressed at the engine. He said the Gremlin driver loved looking for "fast" cars to play with.

In 1969, Car Life tested the 1969 Z/28 290 horsepower 302 4-speed with 4.10 rear gears. It ran a 15.12 at 94.8mph.

Here's another shocker:

In 1967, Motor Trend tested the new 1967 Camaro, with the optional 275 horsepower 4-barrel 327. It ran an 18.2 at 77 mph. A new Prius would have eaten it for lunch...

Got a timing light I can borrow? ?
When we packed up and moved into our new house, my wife had a great question about my timing gun as we packed. I have it still for the old '87, '96 and two '69s. She's wicked smart and witty, but the car knowledge is lacking. She asked "wow, did you actually have to plug in your firearms long ago?" ? ? ? ? ? ?

I still get a kick thinking about that remark...

Actually 18.2 is also what a 2020 Prius does the quarter mile in. So it's heads up.. no lunch eating.

But my question to you is:
Which would you rather own, right now, given the choice, if they were both the same money?
But let's throw a set of long tube headers on that '67... put some hotter plugs and premium fuel in it and run that bitch down the track again. :flag:

Alltime fav out of everything. 67 fast back 4 speed with a 427 and side pipes. It’s more than speed, it’s the sound, the tuck and the surge. Smells too, all triggers with this guy! ?☺?

Racing it on HOTTER plugs and premium unleaded? Are you trying to destroy the engine?
