Agreed. Worst video edit ever is for the RC 2-1/2” Level Kit from Stage 3. What they don’t show you is just how to get the longer strut back in. I’m certain it’s the part where they popped the CV while reefing down on the LCA. So many folks on here have followed those video instructions and lived to regret it. ?
Yup. It got me bad. Took 3 hours to get my CV axle to re seat. If it wasn’t for that VALUABLE missed information, install would have been a breeze. I was sooooo pissed at myself.... and them. Lol

Here’s one I did after my wife told me at least 5 times not to drive over there.
It happens to everyone.

I think I'd start listening to your wife ....

One of the many reasons SVC leveling collars are the way to go! Basically instead of lengthening the entire strut it compresses the spring more. Genius!

Yeah, don't beat yourself up. When I was learning to ski, someone wise heard me complaining about all the times I was falling down. He said "If you are not falling, you are not learning." - Don't know why, but that has stuck with me, and has really helped form how I deal with setbacks. Don't look at them as mistakes, but treat them as opportunities to learn.

On the subject of all the how-to videos, and speaking as someone who produces some of those videos (maybe even some you've seen): I try very hard in my edits to show the common mistakes, how you can avoid them, and how I correct after making them. I'm not afraid to make mistakes on camera, because then I can both learn how to fix them and show my viewers the same so hopefully they can avoid the issue in the first place.

But I agree - that RC video on swapping your coilovers is straight lies. I did my passenger side following their terrible advice, and also pulled the CV axle out (not all the way, but unseated it. Luckily I was able to get it back in without too much drama). On the driver's side I followed the shop manual and removed the axle nut. WAY easier.

I feel like I can't do anything with out messing something else up, or it taking more effort than it should. I watch videos of the stuff i'm trying to do, and they are like, boom, you just pop this out, pop this in, and your are done!

me, i mess around with it for 4x longer than it should take and break or mess something up along the way. i feel like im carefully trying to paint a room and i step in the paint can.

my rear shocks took me 2 days to install, that should have been simple. i swapped out my side markers today for dark ones and i could hardly get the stock ones out, used a "mar free" trim prying tool on the passenger side and it fudged up the paint on the edge of cut out for the lens. i have magnetic touch up paint, but its not 100% im not an idiot, really! i just cant seem to do any mod to this truck with out a hiccup.

im getting my level kit installed tomorrow.. lets hope that goes ok, at least im not doing the work. :D

not looking for advice.. just venting.
For my part, I know (from experience) that I would mess it up, and so I just take it to the shop!

Ummm, why does the term "Been there, done that" come to mind. Don't worry brother, it's a big boat, and many of us are right in there with you.

Oh man.. You're not alone. I had to redo my front eiback spring install 3 times!! First one, wrong c clip location. Second time, didn't put the bumpstops back in. Then third time was the charm. Talk about massive frustration!! And I told myself, I would only be using a spring compressor once..

Also, don't always assume the included instructions are correct. After staring at my add a leaf and its instructions for what must've been two hours, I finally called the company and asked wth was going on. Yep, their instructions left out some key details. That job got finished the next day...

Sometimes you just have to go with your gut on something and power through it.

I as well am in that boat. I lucked out thou, in 1997 I met a fellow service member who turned out to be my best friend. He is very mechanically inclined and is not afraid to tackle anything, has taught me a lot. Sometimes we have to take a step back or an extra trip to the city but so far there has not been a vehicle, home or wood working that we have not accomplished or not been proud of.

Hi Duke,

When at Ford sitting in meetings to discuss various problems...budgets etc. We used to throw out the term..."that is only a couple Tenths"... A tenth of a $ million...small change...$200,000....

We referred to those as blue dollars. Those were the ones in Fords pocket. The ones in our own pockets were green dollars. There was a big difference in the scale of things.

Yep, training and education are valuable things but you really don't know something until you have "been there done that". In the case of mechanical things, you probably have the cuts and scrapes to prove it. :) Nothing replaces experience.?

If it helps, when I added my add-a-leaf, I've mounted my helper springs upside down on one side. Fortunately I could fix it in about 1.5h, but it's so frustrating.
Although I take good care, sometimes I mount my MTB tyres in the opposite rolling direction!

Chill, it happens, the problem is not the skills, it's the mind being tired from the everything else.
