The other part of this that makes absolutely ZERO sense is that the whole POINT of the TSB is to address this exact issue - as it comes up!

This dealership is playing you HARD. The TSB is literally there to address water/condensation getting onto the plugs and from what I know, Ford doesnt perform any TSB unless the problem is present. I.e. if you didnt have water on the plugs when you took it in, they wouldnt give you an engine cover.

This is 100% on ford, and they've admitted it. Unless we're missing a big chunk of the story, this is exactly WHY the TSB exists. Go to another dealer. This is a ford issue.
Have a look. It’s crazy…

I'm not sure what I can do to convince folks that this is real. However, it feels very good to know that no one can believe it's true! I feel vindicated, some
Was wondering what happened to this saga.

Seems as though I really missed out on the fun the last few days.

If anything the invoice you shared should quiet the last of troll defenders.

Glad you got it all squared away!

Yesterday after I washed my truck I looked under the hood to see if the engine cover was wet. There was a few drops on the back side of it but most of the water dripped down the back onto the #4 coil. I took the cover off and there was enough water around the coil to saturate the paper towel I stuffed around it. I rigged up a splash guard from aluminum flashing that deflects the water behind the engine. The next time it's nice out I'm going to pull the #4 coil and see what's down there.

People that park outside are going to have the biggest issues down the road , drip drip drip on a cold engine , then short trips that don't get it hot enough to evaporate, then wash it , drip drip drip, snow... lots of seized plug issues down the road methinks...

Thanks for posting about this water "leak". A paper towel's worth is a decent amount.

Hmm, something to think about and especially in New England when it'll stay cold enough to thaw the water but not always evaporate it (2 minute trip to the store and 6 minute trip to the dump).

yeah no luck getting a new one, so going used route.

it seems the ford explorer L1ME6A949CD was a different part number however, looks identical to l1mz6a949a. it appears that the explorer and ranger are the same. seemed like the bronco is too perhaps. so ill search for both used options.

If it is indeed the same part, why would Ford discontinue it for Ranger but not for others? Unless maybe there is a redesign for Rangers.
BTW, when I searched E-bay for the Ranger cover, one for the Bronco showed up, at $349 new.

At the risk of the pitchforks and torches coming out claiming I am a Troll. Really people...
I will restate what I said in another thread.
I was in the dealer and asked about having my spark plugs inspected - referring to the TSB instructing to add the discontinued cover as the fix. The CSR looked it up and did confirm the cover was discontinued, BUT said there was a new one coming. Dont know what that means and he could not give a timeline.
For those that will not believe me. Get off your A$$, and go down to the dealer and talk to them yourself.
