Maybe Ford hit the supplier with a cease and desist. It would not surprise me.
Word got around about rock autos price, Ford probably dont like it.

The funny thing is that RockAuto, Standard Parts, and the manufacturer are making profit at the $18 - $22 price point. Typically each supply chain link (at least) doubles the price in order to stay profitable.

So lets work backward.

RockAuto sells them for $22 - buys them for $11
Standard Part sells them for $11 - buys them for $5.50
Manufacturer sells them for $5.50, makes them for $2.75

And you know Ford is purchasing them for less than Standard Parts at $5.50, as they buy through a bulk contract for millions of them.

That is a major price markup by Ford, almost obscene. It is called price gouging and is difficult to prove in a court of law, esp with large corporations with a division of corporate lawyers.

I remember when Hurricane Hugo hit South Carolina knocking out power for weeks from the coast to west of Charlotte NC.

The Ice Plant in Georgetown, SC survived the storm and stayed in production, but seeing the need for ICE increase, they started price gouging the public, increasing prices by the hour. Soon they had a near riot on their hands, and local authorities took control of the plant and starting handing out ICE for free.

Moral of the story - Never push the pendulum too far, as it ALWAYS swings back on the opposite direction with equal force.

Better apples to apples comparison. Sensor from Ford without hoses. It’s $38 cheaper than with hoses from Ford. But still 4 times the price of equivalent SMP VP41.

WOW! $140

Maybe I should sell a couple of mine... Nope!

I buy 3 when I need 1 for just this reason. You never know when the price will go crazy or you simply can't get them any longer.... my first 3 cost me ~$60 (shipping included) from RockAuto. I view them as consumables.

When I lived in Colorado I had a bunch of Mormon friends. They all had a 1 year supply of food stuffed in closets and under their beds, and ran canning out of their churches.

The US Gov forced them to stop canning (Stupid Gov meddling), so they built freeze dryers (HarvestRight). I bought one of the very first ones, and have used it extensively. The newer models incorporated a few of my engineering refinements that I sent back their way. They are much easier to use now... and very cost effective.

I learned a great deal from my time spent with them.

It appears these other vendors are scooping them up to make a buck and could be the reason RockAuto is having supply issues.

Corporate drone. Dilbert's world is alive & well.
Probably just me being me but… I am not buying auto parts from Amazon. Chinese counterfeit 💩 is a real problem in the automotive world. T-shirts? Ok. Plastic crap I don’t need? Ok. Useless doodads? Ok. Auto parts? Hard pass.

I've heard a few folks had trouble with the Amazon versions, but you never know which are the real thing, if there is such a thing.

I suspect the Ford part is "Made in China"

If you think auto parts are suspect, consider medicines. All from China, with a few from India but based upon Chinese compounds.

The USA doesn't even make aspirin locally any longer!

This!!

We would go over the border to Mexico for our dental work and pick up a few meds while there. We don't take anything (we do everything holistic if possible) but like to keep some antibiotics and allergy pills on hand and all my friends were giving me a hard time about it. I asked them "do you really think the meds you get at CVS are made in the US"? As far as dental work I've had much better care and work done there than I have here in the US at a fraction of the cost.

I can still read Fomoco on the Amazon ones and from reading a few reviews, it appears they work. I read some of the ones for sale could have issues but not the ones I linked. If I needed one I would buy it but I have a few spared up I bought quite a while ago.
