Two wheel drive 2022 and thinking about running bigger tires on the rear only like 285/70/R17. with 255/65/17 on the front. bigger tires would fill in the rear wheel well and give the truck a slight rake effect. But would the ABS system handle it? Anyone running different size tires front and rear?

Not a good idea. Vehicle is not designed to run different size tires like some sports cars. If not mistaken, even in Forscan you can adjust the tire size for the speedometer, but not for Frontier and rear.

All that said you can put in 265/70-17's on factory wheels and no modifications front and rear

There are likely some great technical reasons not to do this but here’s a very practical reason…

Rear Flat Tire - so you don’t stress your differential, it’s best to swap a front wheel to the rear and put the spare wheel on the front so that the two rear wheels are as close to the same diameter as possible. The fronts can be slightly off, even on a 4x4 as long as only 2WD is used.

I have a 2 wheel drive, stock, and the LAST thing I want is any more rake. There is plenty built into the factory set up.

265/70-17's all the way around probably the way to, but still wondering if ABS braking would be trying to brake front or rear wheels because of the speed difference,

With the years I have an automotive I can confirm that ABS will do funky things when it sees different wheel speeds when it's not supposed to. Since the ranger was designed for the same size tires on all four it's best to keep same size on all four. There are also many ways you can change the calibration for the tire size so at least reads correctly when you change size

My first thought was with 2wd it wouldn't matter. But the posts here make sense that it is most likely not good.

Along with the issues you could face, doing that would look stupid as hell in a truck like the ranger.

Next he'll be trying to find some Keystone or Cragars! And traction bars! And at least a Hurst shift handle....

Hey Op, we are just having fun. This crew cuts up. And we are equal opportunity busters so please don't take anything personal.

BTW, what color fuzzy dice do you have hanging from the mirror? I was always partial to blue.

I was wondering the same thing, not for my truck, but merely as if this is a possibility. Hopefully somebody will respond with actual 1st hand knowledge.

If the ABS looks at the current speed of each wheel and doesn't compare it with the other wheels speed, then it may not be an issue.

Think about it. If you go around a very sharp turn, each wheel of the truck are indeed rotating at different speeds. Yet the ABS doesn't activate when the brakes are used unless traction is lost.

It all depends on the programming.

Mixing tires just a thought NOT doing it, but I did paint my brake calipers blue to match Velocity blue paint, that got me thinking about new tire sizes and ABS system.
