I don't want to spend and arm and a leg on a dash cam. Ive seen them really cheap on Amazon but as the old saying goes you get what you pay for. I would like to stay under $150.00 any suggestions.

When I signed up not too long ago I got the impression from the terms of service that it wasn't commonplace, it was mandated!
I guess I missed that part, but it's OK, no need to leave my kids too much money, I earned all of it.

I did a Amazon Mirror option. Just $99. It is 4K and has front and rear cameras. GPS is hidden under the factory from camera cover (plenty of room) ran the power down the A-Pillar to a switched fuse and tapped with a "Add-A-Fuse".

Note, the camera is not 12v and needs to use the factory power device (cigarette lighter) plug. I did a custom solution with a buck converter to keep mine tidy.

I 3d printed a Camera Mount for the back window. (Apply w 2 sided tape, comes off easy leaving no marks. Wire is ticked into the headliner.

I did one for my wife on her F-150 as well, Same unit.

This is all great info. Has anyone ever used a GoPro? I know they're pricey but I was going to get one anyway for other purposes. You can get the suction cup mount for them. Am I crazy or does this sound like a good (albeit expensive) solution? Thanks in advance.

I think the only reason to use a GoPro instead of a proper dash cam is if you already own a GoPro and absolutely need a dash cam immediately. It's definitely possible to use but you're going to find a number of limitations; lack of 12v wiring options, GoPro's shut off at high temperatures because they have no internal heat control, so you risk them not recording in summertime or overheating when you're parked, you run the risk of "forgetting to turn it on", you have to manually manage the memory cards and remember to wipe them, etc. the list goes on.

They're not really made to be dash cams so it's really no more or less practical than mounting a sony camcorder to your dashboard with the one exception that GoPros are tiny.

I have been taking my time looking for a new dashcam, I have a Dual now but its going on 6 years and I am thinking new tech is probably better LOL
I thin a few weeks ago there was someone that dropped a link on this fourm for one that is for our Ranger and blends in, I thought it was badass for the price....

very interesting, thanks
I bought a fitcam for the rav4 and sent it back I would not buy another one. It does not come with the cable for parking mode and it's too expensive for what it is. I would look for one that has a built in battery so it will work on it's own for parking mode. Also these come from chine and took forever to get prime or not. Not ready for prime time. Junk...

The polarizing filter FTW! =)

I used a piece of paper on the dash to rotate the filter for the least reflection (not sure all cams offer this helpful advice).

That Ford cam is top notch and it sounds like your install was easy (Dongar dongle?).

still a little glare but filter certainly helps
