I know there’s several threads on this topic already but maybe things have changed…

After recently installing upsized new tires (BFG KO3’s 285/70) I’ve got the urge to do some perf mods to my 21’ Ranger and just put an Injen CAI and CVF catted DP on. I was originally basically sold on doing a Livernoise tune but after more researching it sounds like they offer mainly off the shelf tunes. I’d prefer to have a tune dialed into my personal truck. Unleashed and Revolution both offer that it seems. I’m wanting a tune that will help preserve my tranny’s life while still offering a good jump in performance. I noticed that Revolution offers an anti-lag option for Sport mode and certain off-road scenarios. Can anyone offer experience on this anti-lag feature? Is it something worthwhile? It seems this forum is mostly 50/50 on which tuner they prefer. If you were getting your truck tuned today who would you be choosing? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I bought a Livernois tuner off a member of this forum, and could not be more satisfied.i installed the tow tune, with they tell me can be used with both 87 to 93 octane gas. I slso had them do 93 performance and E30 tunes.
93 performance tune and the truck is s whole lot more fun!
The E30 tune turns the truck into a hole different beast! You have to play chemist (a little though)
Fist, test the E85 you have available by you, using a test kit readily available from Amazon or FleaBay. The RaceTrack by me is actually E55. Look on the 'net for an E30 calculator to see the ratio of E55 to 93 premium. Then, run the tank till almost dry. for E30, add 24 gals of 93 octane and 4 gals of E55.
Voila ...E30, witch I believe is 97 octane (race fuel).
Lock the rear diff, turn off traction control...power brake to 3000 rpm ..release the brake and smoke 285-70R17 MT Baja Boss tires for 20 ft!
No power brake, and my Draggy app says 0 to 60 =5.9secs.
Anyway, I daily use the tow tune with 87 octane...gets me 20mpg around town, and on a trip 2weeks ago up to Jackson, MS, I got 26@ 75 mph.
Couldn't be happier with Livernois!

Update in case anyone was curious. I went with Revolution Automotive. Haven’t received tuner yet but I’ll be sure to post back after I get it on the truck.

I have the SCT and it was a waste of money. I could feel ZERO difference between stock and tuned.
A few questions for you… did you purchase the SCT programmer by itself and used whatever tunes came with the device? Or did you go thru a tuning shop who supplied you with Ranger specific tuning? What were you looking to achieve and what other mods/bolt-ons do you have on your truck?

I just got a Livernois tune. They will ask you what engine mods you have BEFORE they "ship" you your tune so they do adjust to some degree. I also have a truck just like yours: '21 Tremor. The gain with the Livernois Performance tune using 91 octane is about 50. With your CAI and freer flowing air filter you most likely will gain more...maybe 55. That's really the safest amount you can get without compromising durability. Believe me, it is A LOT. It will feel like a lot. Your truck will feel like a complete Hot Rod. The transmission will shift like it should and when it should. You're going to have to back off the throttle more to avoid speeding tickets. The truck will be way more responsive to throttle inputs. It will struggle for traction off the line more so than it does now. Be careful in the wet. With this tune, the truck will corrupt your senses. It really does transform the truck into what it should have been in the first place.

A truck this fun should be illegal!

I agree with OCL...it feels like a totally different truck
As to durability, please keep in mind, the transmission and rear end is basically the same as an F150. Our trucks easily weigh 1500#s less than an F150. When an F150 is equiped with the V8, they have 400hp and 410ft#s of torque. I don't think an extra 50 hp is going to affect durability.
