Nice. We’re neighbors and twins. Yeah, I like the Leer and the Snugtop so far. I’ll have to check out A&A. Thanks.
Well I’m getting some replacements on the way. Absolutely astounded that the world has come to this level of insanity. I had wheel locks on the wheels and I live in a quiet new part of town.
Thats insane! Wtf. I have the stock 18s with tires on them if you need them but I'm leaving for hunting today so let me know quick if you need them.

Hi Colorado - new member, new Ranger owner in NoCo. I almost bought a Taco and landed here instead. No buyers remorse yet! I haven’t seen a ton of Rangers on the road but Tacos are everywhere. Looking forward to learning more on these forums.

Out of curiosity, is anyone running winter tires? I just traded an almost-new Accord which had a set of Blizzaks and we have a ‘12 Highlander that my son drives and a ‘20 RAV4 Hybrid that my wife drives. Both have a set of Blizzaks we put on in the fall and both ride so much better in the snow and ice with them on. I’m debating Line-X or winter tires for my first purchase.

Last season when I was in Leadville and Silverthorne I ran some snow tires on my Ranger. I ran the Cooper M&S and I studded them. For the most part they did just fine and they rode nicely for a truck tire. If you're the run any winter tires that is my recommendation. Did you run ballistics on it? I'm sure you can as long as it's in that size. It's definitely not going to hurt especially since it's more of a safety item.

I've just been running an aggressive all terrain, Cooper STmaxX. I've found with the ranger's 4wd and traction control they do just great in the worst conditions we've gotten around Denver since july 2019, along with occasional winter mountain driving. The only thing I have to even think twice about is when the road turns to solid ice, and even then, just don't drive like an idiot and I've had no trouble.

I can see dedicated snows being worth it if you live in the mountains or very regularly drive up there and have solid ice roads very often. If you're just driving around the front range and occasionally to the mountains I don't know that it'd be worth it.

Thanks! I appreciate the input. I actually made an appointment to have the Line-X “installed” on Friday. I’ll wait for at least a few good winter storms and make a call on whether I need dedicated tires. I’m mostly not doing much in the mountains in the winter anyway so it might be overkill.

I
went with Nankang AT-5 CONQUEROR A/T (actually got them at Discount Tire Direct, but could not find link). had them studded. I have always used Studded tires in Colorado since the snow packs quickly to ice. Only had them on a short while last year. will be putting them on again soon and have a season to see whether I made a good choice or not.

Hi everyone! Just picked up my truck on Friday so I get to leave the tacoma forums and join these. Coming from a rwd taco so I didnt get to really explore anywhere in the mountains. Any good trails to take a stock fx4? Something harder than a fire trail but not too hard where ill get stuck if I go alone.

Edit: I live in aurora so something close to denver preferably. The springs is probably the furthest id drive for now although I want to go to Lake San Cristobal eventually

Welcome to the club. There are a bunch of trails out here in the Rockies and unfortunately due to the winter season there isn't much to do at this time. My suggestion is to get some books for Offroad exploration. The two I know of are FunTreks and Colorado Trails. FunTreks has a South and North region and Colorado Trails has southwest, central and front range region. They will give you a good idea on what trails you might be able to do. Thankfully you should have a locker on the truck. With that you have a very small chance of getting stuck but as long as you are being smart you should be fine.

Sounds good. I figured it might not be the greatest time of the year to go. I'll checkout those books and hopefully once it warms up a bit ill have a lift and bigger tires.

Perhaps we could meet up soon. I currently live in Aurora as well. I have the Old Man EMU lift on my truck with 265/70-17'S and it rides better than stock. With the lift i have been able to do a lot since I dont have a locker on my truck.

I just moved to Lakewood. I can say that with a mostly stock fx4 there's not much chance of making it up any 4x4 trails right now with the snow. But, there are miles and miles of snowpacked roads in the national forests that are still lots of fun this time of year. Check out the national forest mobile app or interactive map on their website and look for the highway legal vehicle roads, those are going to be your best bet for an adventure in the front range this time of year...in my opinion of course.

Congrats on the truck.

Here's a post (and thread) that might help. Like has been said it's pretty nasty out there til later in the year but this will give you some ideas for Spring.

While I am thinking about it the FourMile area over by Buena Vista is a good place to test your Ranger out for Offroad both stock and modified. You may need to wait a while until to go but I promise it will be worth it.
