That darn Ford Ranger design flaw gets into everything! =D

Seems like only Chevy has successfully addressed the rake issue:

I need to pick up two 12' pipes and short haul them a few miles back to my house. I am thinking of just putting them in the bed with the rear gate up so that the pipes face upwards and tie them down that way. I don't think I will have any height issues. Anyone have a better way to get these home?
Maybe bring something heavy to kay across the lower end to help hold them down?

I'd use a load brace/bar across the pipes around the top of the bed but without you could build some type of 2x4 top brace to keep them from flipping out... A couple bags of mulch or dirt over the pipes will keep them down.

How heavy are these pipes? I’d be concerned about them flexing and the resulting dynamic load on the top of the tailgate.

@Tom_C has a good suggestion above. You don’t want this to happen…

Ask @Gone Blue how much fun he had with that.

the above advice is all good. a tail gate extender. https://www.harborfreight.com/truck-bed-extender-69650.html

I also add strappable weight on the end in the bed. if they don't flex much it helps keeps things down.

I have a support structure for 8' and 10' boards. but 10' is a lot of weight out the end of the truck.
Wow, I only paid 20 bucks for mine minus 20%. Can't keep up with inflation.
Stop at home depot or lowes and they have boxes of flags for free at the lumber exit.

Do you need them to be 12'? If not, cut them in half.

The pipe actually comes in 24', having it cut to 12' but I need them at that length. I think bringing something heavy to hold them down in the front and strapping them in tight will work.

That would actually work very well.

Just attach a skateboard under the end and you can tow them home.

7ft is a lot hanging out of the bed- dangerous for many reasons already mentioned. I’ve had to move a 12’ ladder in my old ranger by putting one end on the tailgate and strapping it with a couple feet off the tailgate and the other end resting on the cab (use a towel or blanket). Bundle, tape and make sure it’s tight so it doesn’t slide.

With padding I have transported half sticks of pipe suspended from passenger side rear view mirror and 2x4 secured across the rear of the box/bed.
I guess our Canadian neighbors use a different terminology?
