Truck is in the shop to get the rear driveshaft/diff pinion seal replaced under warranty and they're telling me the drive shaft steady bearing bushing is 75% worn out. And it's not covered under warranty. I have a hard time believing this. In my warranty package it states all rear wheel drive bearings and supports are covered but this one isn't. Also I'd this a good price or is this something that can be done cheaper at a friend's shop

Never heard of a steady bearing bushing, are they talking about the drive shaft support bearing?

What year is your Ranger? How many miles/km on it? What warranty package are you referring to?

Had to look up what driveshaft steady bearing was. Never heard the center support bearing called that. For that price you could replace the driveshaft with a Tom Woods single piece shaft and never have the issue again. There, I beat everyone else to that.

Not sure what the parts are but sounds high to me.

This should be covered under that plan. Others on this forum have run into this same issue. I believe it’s because when the dealer enters the part number for the bearing it comes up not being covered ( which is a glitch I believe). But if they enter the part number for the driveshaft assembly it is covered. You may want to contact Ford customer service to get this looked at. I know others on here have had their carrier bearing covered.

When I read thru my ESP, there is no mention of carrier bearing (steady bearing) in any of the different levels of coverage from Base to Premium. But I don't see anywhere that specifically states
that it is not covered.

When I looked up that P/N at Levittown, it's called Center Support and the notes say included with drive shaft. Next to other names it says Center Bearing, kit Drive Shaft Boot Repair.

I don't know how it is on our Rangers, but on my '95 F150, the bearing was pressed onto the shaft and was not easily replaced on its own. I needed a press to pull the old one off, and press on the new one.

THIS, I believe most people that have had this issue had the entire driveshaft replaced under warranty. The driveshaft assay is coded as a warranty item but the bearing is not.

Contacted my service department, told them exactly what you mentioned here and they got it approved, getting the ranger back tomorrow evening. Thanks a lot

I cannot confirm, but I think in the early production and they set up Warranty Specifics for the Ranger.
The only way to get the carrier bearing was to get the whole driveshaft assembly and now it can be purchased separately.
That separate part number never got programmed into the system.
I have a hunch this is the issue, clearly someone needs to fix it to avoid hassles.
