The hallmark of some of the best threads! =D

But then, a Volkswagen towing something is:

Of course, that's really silly, however, I could use a Volkswagen this way here in New England:

Litres per 100km solves this problem. Doesn’t “I hit 22 l/100km on my last trip” sound a lot better than “I only got 11 MPG, my truck is a pile of junk.”? At least, I keep telling myself that…

NO !!!! I'm towing 7000 lbs, and have never gotten over 12 mpg at 65 mph. At 55-60 mph it's get around 13-14 depending on terrain, wind, traffic, stop n go. Some may get a mile or two better or worse, but it is what it is. Climbing a grade for any distance....7-10 mpg at 55-60 mph.
As for your "bud" and his 28 mpg diesel towing....I'd like to know what he's towing. I don't think too many big pick up's with a diesel manage 28 mpg too much even solo, much less towing a heavy trailer.
You have a 4 banger turbo that makes great power and torque, but it is "working" to tow that heavy load....it is what it is, and no add-on's or tunes will get you much better.
Agree with everything! Especially the 28mpg on a diesel towing. I find that EXTREMELY hard to believe.

We bought Our 2020 4wd Ranger XL Supercab as gas engine equivalent of
diesel because government made them expensive an unavailable in mid size trucks . I tow 4500 lb camper, tow mode, 93 octane, now that’s its final broke in at 10 k miles I get 12/13 mpg towing Fl Flatland @ 60 mph. The trailer is big wind sail even with WDH.

I’m pissed at government, pollution requirements, and truck purchase costs.

I speak as retired trucker owner Operator with 20 years OTR experience 70’s-90’s
