So, I just pulled the trigger on a set of Bilstein 4600’s before the tariffs hit too hard.

Just one question – how many miles are you getting out of your FX4 OEM shocks before replacing them? I purchased these ahead of time, I’ll probably archive them in the garage for a couple of years before installing them. I’m just curious about the longevity of the FX4 OEM shocks…

Actually, I have a half a mind just to do that. I only have 6,300 miles on my truck, it was garaged during three Alaskan winters. I only bought the FX4 package because it came with the 3.73 locker, the other three hundred dollars difference covered the shocks, skid plates and FX4 Off Road stickers which were removed twenty minutes after I drove off the lot!

I’ve had Bilstein’s on several other vehicles, so I probably won’t wait as suggested…

As we used to say in the Sport Trac world that I came from, the stock shocks were junk when it rolled off the transporter.
I replaced the OE shocks on my 05 Sport Trac at 12,000 miles after I hit a ripple on I-90 and got sideways at 75 mph. Lucky we weren't killed.
Replaced the rear shocks on the Ranger at 50k, front struts seem okay so far but I have an STX with the standard suspension that doesn't get as many complaints.

I replaced mine at 1,000 miles. After my first highway trip, I knew I had to. It bounced up and down like a sailboat! Once apart, one of my FX4s on the front was already leaking down the side…at 1,000 miles! The 4600s are a world a difference. A little on the firm side at times, but handling and overall ride was much improved.

Totally understood... I know that the ride will be a lot firmer, but that's how I remember it on my 1998 Ranger, especially on turns at a higher than normal speed.

I figure the sooner I get the OEM FX4's off, the newer they'll look for possible resale - what do you guys think about that? I guess this is turning into a post about when to install the Bilstein's rather than how long to go without!

Love that color. I bought mine in 2020 during COVID. I wanted a Fx4 Lariat. Couldn't find one. And I didn't want white. But, that's all I could find, so I bought it. On the plus side I find the white looks clean even after a rain ?️☔

stock FX4 shocks suck. I replaced my fx2 at 2500 miles and one of the front shocks was leaking a bit already ??
