Hi y'all. Joined up to learn about tire and wheel combos and this board is amazing. I'm learning a ton. Thank you.

I have an opportunity to buy 285, 75, 17 BFG KO2s for $500 from a friend. I live in the Virgin Islands and tires and shipping is extra expensive.

What is the most affordable way to get those on my truck without rubbing?

Would 3 inch leveling kit with a 1 inch wheel spacer be enough until I can afford new wheels?

Just so we are clear here - I'm not debating stock tread pattern over Nitto / BFG. Only size.
All things being equal...
Will 265/70/17 Nitto / BFG give you demonstratable performance gains over a 255/65/17 Nitto / BFG

If the answer is, "No, I like big tires!" Then I can't argue with that. Go get your big tires. I'm not making your truck payment for you so you get to do what you want. I'm not judging either. Just looking for evidence to support the need to change over to bigger tires.
You need to define what you mean by performance.

Fair question.
Does it handle better off road?
Better grip.
Better traction.
Smoother ride.
Stop shorter faster.

Are there any compromises on road? Do you give up streetable performance?
More roll in the corners?
Easier to flip the vehicle?
Slower off the light?
Increased fuel consumption?
Rougher street ride?

Hi guys, a (little) bit offtopic but do you know the part no. of the grey 17x8 OEM rims most of you have (e.g. post no. 297)? It's impossible to find them here in Europe, the local Ford dealer has never seen them before and no US seller is willing to ship them overseas.. So I'd like to provide the dealer with more detailed info at least. Or if anybody of you is considering selling them, I'd be interested. Thanks.

I wouldn't say better handling off road, but certainly a bigger tire will improve many aspects. For me, it was about getting as much ground clearance as I could, more sidewall for rocky surfaces and the ability to air down more and have a wider contact patch. You can put a 5' lift on a truck but that doesn't change the ground clearance for the axles. Only bigger tires can do that.
As to on road...all of those are probably true of a bigger off road tire to some degree. However, I corner pretty hard in my truck and it gives me zero indication that it would flip on me.

I also went with the 265/70R17 but I chose the BFGs.

What about them two alloy looking control bars right near the tires on the inner side of the tires. ?? Does the side wall on your tires rub them ????

Interested too. Should have my truck in about a week. Tires will be the first thing.
I put 265/70/r17 on my ranger with stock suspension no rubbing no issues. Love it. 4th pic shows the control arm near the inner side wall of the tires ..

Any issues with the Duratrac tires? Where did you get them if you don't mind my asking? I also want to upgrade but keep the stock 18 inch Lariat wheels. The Duratrac have the tough look I'm looking for.

A little wider may rub against that control arm. On the inner side of the front tires. So might have to put a wheel spacer
