Not to be a D**K, but that translates to .5" difference in the radius; and about a full inch in the diameter. I get your point, tho.

Thought I kinda said that... Think I'm just going to do the 2.5" lift and go a 33" and be done.

Can't just cut sheet metal like my other truck....I mean I could, but it doesn't help the resale...lol

FX4 package, fully stock:

285/65 R18 -- 32.6" x 11.2" -- rubs, lift required
275/65 R18 -- 32.1" x 10.8" -- rubs a little, lift or crash bar mod needed
285/60 R18 -- 31.5" x 11.2" -- unknown, haven't seen anyone try these
265/65 R18 -- 31.6" x 10.4" -- 100% okay stock, no rub
265/70 R17 -- 31.6" x 10.4" -- 100% okay stock, no rub
265/60 R18 -- 30.5" x 10.4" -- FX4 stock size
265/65 R17 -- 30.6" x 10.4" -- FX4 stock size

Nice summary - agreed with all, except I would add for 275/65 R18 (32.1" x 10.8") that you WILL rub during normal driving. You can probably run this size if you mod the crash bars and will probably need spacers. To be honest, you will probably need spacers for anything wider than 265 because the sidewall is so close the spindle.
Very helpful info. This feedback more or less confirms for me that I'm going to pick up some 17" sport wheels to cheaply go 265/70r17, and I'm going to hock my "upgraded" 18" magnetics.

I'm actually stoked that I can go 31.5" with a fully stock setup, just add rock sliders and it's actually one hell of an off road setup, no lift or other mods needed.

That's actually exactly what I have haha I have 265/70/ R17 Falken Wildpeak AT3W's and custom rock sliders welded to the frame. It's my comfortable daily driver that's pretty capable off-road on the weekends.

Although I probably will end up getting a coilover level kit at some point because ground clearance/approach angle could definitely be improved.

Edit: Just saw that you're trying to go to 17's. I would definitely recommend that decision because more sidewall = better for off road. More comfortable on road, and tire size is cheaper I think. A set of four Falken's was $500 for me - amazing value.

Here's the summary I've cobbled together for 18" wheels, can anyone chime in on this?

285/65 R18 -- 32.6" x 11.2" -- rubs, lift required
275/65 R18 -- 32.1" x 10.8" -- maybe okay, lift or crash bar mod probably needed at full flex
285/60 R18 -- 31.5" x 11.2" -- unknown, haven't seen anyone try these
265/65 R18 -- 31.6" x 10.4" -- 100% okay stock, no rub
265/70 R17 -- 31.6" x 10.4" -- 100% okay stock, no rub
265/60 R18 -- 30.5" x 10.4" -- FX4 stock size

Great summary. The dealer has me totally confused. I have Toyo winters that I would like to use. Just need 18 rims. Issue is one person at the dealership says they will fit with no mods and no lift the other says absolutely not
My tires are LT275 70R 18

Any thoughts on if they will fit without a lift or mod?

That's a 33" tire. Will absolutely not fit.

Max outer diameter that you can go without a lift is 32" or so.

Is there an actual physical clearance difference between the FX4 and standard Ranger?

I see the 4x4 Ranger has a slight increase in clearance at front and rear.

Here are the Differences between 4x2 and 4x4 SuperCrews (NON FX4)

Cab Height: 71.2 vs 71.8
Ground Clearance: 8.4 vs 8.9
Tailgate to Ground: 33.1 vs 33.8

Angle of Approach: 27.9 vs 28.7
Angle of Departure: 25.2 vs 25.4
Ramp Breakover Angle: 22.7 vs 21.5

Now on the FX4 Literature (https://www.ford.com/services/assets/Brochure?bodystyle=Truck&make=Ford&model=Ranger&year=2019)

Page 6 Lists the FX4 Package and make mention of the following:

Offroad tuned Suspension.
28.7 - Angle of Approach
25.4 - Angle of Departure
21.5 - Ramp Breakover Angle

Looks to me, the 4x4 and FX4 are identical... only about 1/2" of extra clearance on the overall truck between 4x2 and 4x4.

EDITED TO ADD*

Also, I noticed that while the 4x2 comes on a 255/65/17 the 4x4 comes on a 265/65/17.... a difference of 1/2" diameter. This would account for 1/4" of the 1/2" extra clearance that the 4x4 have over the 4x2. . . .

See my earlier post, you can get a 33" if you go with a 255 cross section. Just did a ton of driving out in canyon lands and Moab and the truck was killer with it's Cooper St maxx

Oh that's right, forgot about that option. Nonetheless, the guy I replied to was trying to fit a 275 cross section 33" tire which is a big no. I was wanting to go 255 as well when I swapped out my tires, but unfortunately options become pretty limited when you try to go to a relatively skinny high aspect ratio tire. And they get expensive too.

Hello, I will be picking up my new Ranger on 10/21 and was wondering if anybody has tried a 275/70/R17 with a 2' level lift. From reading here it seems like a 265/70/R17 fits with no lift. Will be using the stock 17" painted wheels. Thanks in advance.

I don’t see any reason why that wouldn’t work, it’s only about 5/8” taller overall than a 265/70R17, and that tire will fit on a totally stock truck.

That looks awesome! Also curious if you're running stock suspension. It looks like you are. I think your setup would be perfect with a 2" level kit.

I'm also curious what mud flaps you're running.

LOOKS GREAT!
