Finally got my extender installed! Hardest parts of the installation were cleaning the holes out that the bolts go into as the factory spray in bed liner material had closed them off quite a bit. And I definitely recommend the rivet gun for the installation as well! Got one for $10 at Harbor Freight and did the job just fine! Lastly, the extender does remove very easily by rotating it to a 45 degree angle towards the back and lifting up to remove! So you can easily install and uninstall the extender itself as needed! And for volume representation, went to Sam's Club yesterday and fit an entire full shopping cart worth of items in the corral the bed extender makes in the back, so there is definitely a good amount of space! happy with it so far!
How did you get those holes cleaned out of the bedliner material? I have the same situation and am picking up my bed extender today so hoping for some advice on getting those screw holes cleaned out enough so I'll be able to get it installed. Thanks!

I used a Metric tap Took me all of about 5 minutes to clean out the holes...do not remember the tap size, just matched to the hardware supplied with the Bed Extender

Glad to hear it worked out, I did not have a tap for this on hand at the time, but i was able to work the holes clean carefully with a pocket knife and just a bit of force on the bolts. Definitely not the best way our how I would recommend if you have a tap on hand, but it worked for me with what i had around!

The correct choice is to use a “chaser” tap. A cutting tap is designed to create new threads, whereas a chaser tap is designed to clean, re-form and restore existing threads.

"METRIC"?? Surprising, as I'd think that an American truck would be all SAE. Good to know.

I think all Fords are all metric now. Except for the wheel diameter of course. Because metric is superior.

Hi Erik

Yep...we went metric many years ago...do not remember the year exactly but late 1980's 200l was metric. I had to buy an 18mm combo wrench for the tool box as all the chassis bolts and nuts were 18mm...

Is that right?! The only thing I worked on on that 2001 Diesel SuperDuty was replacing the fuel filter.. it was so long ago that I don't even remember if it required a wrench for the job.

Pics of the Yakima Bed Extender in action and stored away in my garage. It’s all aluminum, so hanging it up on the wall is an easy task.
Randy thanks for sharing, I need to look into one of those!

The (in the bed) bed extender is a must have IMHO - I had a Frontier I bought new in 2006. Middle level SE came with one (also included Utili-track system and spray in bed liner- All for less than $18k - NEW). Anyway, Nissan used straps to hold down as well and I never had an issue with them. The thing I will miss the most is the Utili-track rails. It allowed you to slide the extender forward, so it doubled as a bed divider.

How did you go about cleaning out the spray in liner closing off the holes?

This comment isn't for me, but having installed this the other weekend, a tap made quick work of cleaning the threads.

I just was a pocket knife and carefully cleaned it out, a bit time consuming. A tap would definitely work better if available, but besides that, just patience.
