Might be too late, but here’s why I ditched the battery booster cables and battery packs.

This Noco charger is worth checking out.
I have one in each vehicle and our boat. I even gave away one as gift.
It holds a charge really well, sometimes takes 2-3 months before I get a chance to check it and still has 75%-100% charge.

Its smaller than tradional battery booster/packs, yet powerful and also charges your phones in a pinch. ?

Has anyone looked and decided against something simple and plug in like this? Just plug in. Protrudes out a little but requires not having to pull apart dash panels. Just plug and play? Not as attractive as colorful gauge flat against the panel but easier plug and play.

P3 brake controller will also give you battery voltage if your deciding what controller to install.

Most of us received 42,000 points upon purchase. I quickly used many of mine on the charger and Genuine FORD touch up paint marker. ($21. + tax)

Came home after 3 week vacation and the Ranger battery barely able to start engine. Used truck for two days , but battery did not recharge. Dealer replaced it under warranty.
So, if I leave the Ranger parked at the airport for a two week trip, do I have to disconnect the battery to avoid a dead battery when I get back ??
to be safe you could always start it remotely via the app...

I also installed a voltmeter (replaced one of the 12v power port)

At startup (for a few seconds, but less than a minute) it will
blink and read 15.6 volts.

Then after that, with engine running it shows between 13.8 to 14.8 v
(driving around and depending on auxliary lights/12v accessories I have on)

When I shut off the engine, it reads between 12.6-12.8 volts.

I’m pretty sure the alternator is working as it should, and this little Voltmeter lets me keep an eye on the battery.

I’m happy with mine. I like how the color around it also corresponds to the Voltage, ( red, yellow, green)

Just to let you know...at start up, the voltmeter would blink and display higher voltage(around 15+ volts). Then go to normal mode after a few seconds.
I believe this is when the Rangers battery is getting an initial dose of the charge current from the Alternator.

Also, when you shut down your engine, the voltmeter stays On for a few more minutes. (its led so it doesn‘t consume much battery power)
This is normal and will shut down on its own. I think its because it’s tied to the Accessory setting.

I haven't driven my truck much, what with trying to hide from the plague and all.

The other day I went downtown and noticed that the 'door handle touch lock/unlock' wasn't working (only driver's door worked).
Problem persisted for several days.

Looked in the manual - didn't find anything about settings or anything.
No big thing, but looked like a trip to the dealer - Sh*t!

Then remembered reading here about sleep mode and stuff.
So, hooked up my Genuine Ford little maintenance charger I got last year.
Took it 6 hours to get to led 4 (Ok to start truck), and overnight to reach led 7 (full charge).
Door touch locks still didn't work.
Then I remembered reading about 'key cycles', so computer can catch up or something.
So, fired it up and drove around the block.
AND....All doors work again!

Now, this apparent fix for the problem could be nonsense. I don't know.
Maybe the battery had nothing to do with it.
I just thought I'd mention it in case this might be a symptom of a low battery.
(maybe I need to order one of those cig lighter meters ya'll mention, so I have data if this happens again)

Using the volt meeting in Torque/OBD2AA its ~12V not running and ~14+ running. Pretty typical values in my experience.

The Ranger has a battery management system which is pretty smart. It is not your father's charging system on his 1974 Plymouth Valiant. In an effort to improve mileage manufacturers are finding ways to lighten their vehicles. Smaller, lighter AGM (soon Lithium Ion) batteries are part of this. They aren't charged in the same fashion as that big old lead acid battery in dad's car. So don't get wierded out if you see voltages other than dad's. My truck can set for a week and starts up fine. I run a 50-watt ham radio in it and it handles the load fine.
