  1. Why Does the Tacoma Dominate the Off-Road Pickup Segment?

Fundamentally, the limiting factors are usually 1. How willing you are to beat up your ride 2. Geometry/size — all the midsize trucks are fairly close, but I think the ranger has slightly better departure angles. This still boils down to how far you can go without worrying about beating up...
  2. Tail light compatibility

Tail lights are stupidly expensive. If it’s just cracked (no pieces missing) I’d get some clear epoxy resin to patch it until you find a replacement at a picknpull.
  3. 2 annoying things i noticed after 1st week with new Ranger

Auto start stop uses the belt driven starter/generator (which has enough power to start the engine smoothly at operating temp). The conventional starter is only used for for cold starts. Personally, I’m not too concerned about any well maintained powertrain designed in the last 20 years...
  4. Snow Chains vs. Cables?

Cables are fine if you don’t plan on using them, but if you want to drive on unplowed roads get real chains— I like the diamondback style, rather than the ladder style chains, they help prevent lateral slides/oversteer better. I made the mistake of cheaping out and getting cable chains twice...
  5. How Bad is the Nanny?

My only complaints along those lines are: 1. No physical button or onscreen shortcut to turn the SYNC 3 display off (you need to dig into the menu) 2. No setting to start with the display off. FCA Uconnect has both of those, and I really appreciate those options to minimize distractions and...
  6. Frame Twist Off Road?

I have a box of odd sockets that come in handy dealing with rusted, rounded, or otherwise damaged fasteners. Sometimes a slightly over or undersized one does the job without resorting to heat and “percussive maintenance”.
  7. Battery Voltage is questionable - What is yours?

P3 brake controller will also give you battery voltage if your deciding what controller to install.
  8. Some Trailering Bones to Pick With Ford

The most straightforward way to lower it would be an axle flip— stick axles usually go above the leaf pack, and moving them below (like the stock ranger) is an easy way to lift them. Would probably require a little fab work (u-bolts, shock mounts) and possibly a driveshaft balance.
  9. Additional "Software Gauges" Available?

Cheap android phone + torque pro app + Bluetooth obdii scanner. If you have Sync 3 there’s a torque pro plugin that makes it work with android auto.
  10. Incentives History?

This year is different because of COVID-19. Ranger production was shut down temporarily, and 2021 production was pushed back until early December. Ford starts stacking crazy incentives when rangers start stacking up on dealer lots and for now they’re still mostly supply constrained.
  11. Should I buy this truck?

I cross shopped the f150. The 3.3 v6 has functionality the same payload and towing (more than 1/2 yard, less than a full yard of dirt or rock, can tow a loaded 7k trailer but not a 10k), and at least in my area was going to cost $3-7k more with the options I wanted (even if I went ext cab...
  12. Careful stepping in the rear bumper

The tire makes a pretty good step for bed side access. As a bonus you aren’t likely to damage it.
  13. Bed replacement system

Looks great, but I’d be worried about reduced payload— all that storage becomes a whole lot less useful if it weighs 400lbs more than the stock solution.
  14. Recommendations for rack storage boxes/totes?

+1 on the action packer, probably the cheapest lockable (mostly) weather resistant box. If you want to go the bag route, check out dry bags for whitewater rafting-- heavy welded vinyl construction, roll top closure, heavy duty D-rings for tie downs, available in sizes from 10L to 200L. They...
  15. Brake controller wire sizes and connections

Just did mine. 12v (yellow) and trailer (blue) are 12ga, ground (white) and brake on/off (white/violet) are 20ga. I used 16-20ga (red) and 10-12ga (yellow) crimp on butt splices. My P3 harness had 16ga for ground and boo, and 12ga for 12v and trailer. Mounted nicely in the center console. edit...
