I put my ARB skids through a lot of hits. Worth every penny. I can't leave well enough alone and got the RCI steel skids. Aluminum could save a lot weight, but I like the protection of the steel.
So you removed your ARB set in order to mount the RCI set?

Are the RCI skids that much better?

the arb is 3mm thick and the RCI are 4mm. They also tuck up tighter to the frame. I gained about 1/2” to an inch of ground clearance.

sooo from my history with ifs trucks aluminum is good and bad

good
its light and doesnt always need paint

bad
bends really easy and is sticky on rocks so will need replaced more frequently vs steel plus cost

i personally always ran steel for skids and sliders yes its heavy but it provides the best amount of protection for the vehicle..
if i do skids this time ill get aluminum since im not beating the crap out of this truck or trying to go rock crawling

one thing that Ive not seen or heard from anyone using aluminum is how they prevent galvanic corrosion.

I dont have any plates on mine but was / have thought about this a bit.
Any of you all smart folks please enlighten me a bit on this

What would do to prevent dissimilar metals corroding is powder coat then have a thin piece of rubber between the two to create a barrier.

not sure if I am a huge fan of this design. I haven't incorporated the fuel filler only because I can't find any decent edge seals that doesn't have a bend radius less than 3". I have thought about putting the edge seal on the door but have an inner web holding the seal vs the outer structure. maybe Im just rambling about it and overthinking it too much.

I understand that completely but truth be told that still may be flawed without an isolation sleeve over the fastener (button head cap screw im guessing)

I would probably assume countersunk bolts to prevent snags on the hardware but Im not sure. but you can get thin rubber washers that would be flexible enough to get the bolts tight and still isolate everything too.

but with the amount of corrosion you'll find just on the OEM frame I wouldn't really go that far in the rabbit hole of preventing galvanic corrosion where the bolts are connected to the skid plate.

How are things coming, Brad? Haven't seen an update in a bit. Have you been wheeling and using the flatbed?

Cheers.
