Couldn’t resist adding this to the truck. “OnlyFlatbeds” haha. Some guys on the Facebook Ranger pages have zero humor.

I especially like the cliche members who response to every other modifcation is, "you should get under armor before anything". Like there is some secret society of off-roaders who pray to the skid plate god or something.

okay sooo skids are something really nice same with sliders if you plan to wheel and beat on your truck i highly advise getting sliders first to protect your rockers they are very expensive to mess up and skids protect your important bits buuuuuut with that said not everyone needs them im running the oem skids atm because im not wheeling i dont see a need for anything stronger atm

I’d like to get some skids for the truck but I haven’t really researched them enough to figure out what’s the best. I would love to find some aluminum skids though

I would be disappointed if you didn't make them

sooo from my history with ifs trucks aluminum is good and bad

good
its light and doesnt always need paint

bad
bends really easy and is sticky on rocks so will need replaced more frequently vs steel plus cost

i personally always ran steel for skids and sliders yes its heavy but it provides the best amount of protection for the vehicle..
if i do skids this time ill get aluminum since im not beating the crap out of this truck or trying to go rock crawling

there is a company, idk if they still make them, thatmade aluminum skids for wranglers with optional hdpe panels that combat the “sticky” part of aluminum. Also when the aluminum is close to 2x the thickness itis just as strong if not stronger than steel. Now it will still gouge but the weight savings is the best. Right now where I off-road I don’t think I’ve hit anything. On specific areas I’ll opt for steel like the diff skid.

that would be nice on the toyota side they never made anything to help with them being sticky it was just a known thing if you wanted to beat on it get steel if not get aluminum for the rare oops.

i get that but ive seen a lot of aluminum skids bend and get damaged easily mainly in the ifs location so thats why when i had my tacoma and i was beating on it i chose steel.

but for what id do now which isnt wheeling haha id op for aluminum for less weight

I put my ARB skids through a lot of hits. Worth every penny. I can't leave well enough alone and got the RCI steel skids. Aluminum could save a lot weight, but I like the protection of the steel.
