I did call Ford Customer Service and turns out they can do anything over the phone, fix tires, repair engines, apply wax, etc. EXCEPT turn on wifi hotspot SIM cards. :)
It's been a while, but I think I activated it thru the Ford Pass.

Never used it, never will. Waste of money IMO, especially when most phone plans now come with free HotSpot.

I did get it since I drive out of town a lot. I have Google Fi Unlimited Plus, but the service does have areas without coverage, for me, adding the AT&T wireless was worth the coverage in those areas. I use Waze most of the time while driving and it requires data to work right. Up in the mountains this last weekend I would notice I was using the truck's data as the phone was dinging for new notices while the AA interface shows the phone had no data, I do wish AA would show with the phone was using the WiFi though.

yes a phone works for such arrangements but if the guy needs to phone for talking he can't be using it for a hot spot.
That depends on the phone service. While I was with Straight Talk using an AT&T SIM I could use data (to include hotspot) and talk at the same time. Data rate may have reduced some, but for most use it was not noticed.

I can't say whether that's true or not but I can say that I have better connectivity with the truck wifi than with my cell on it's own. I've only used it a few times but it has helped. Maybe the antenna just does better on the truck than my phone?
My phones are through AT&T and there are definitely times that my phones do not have signal but the truck hotspot does. So the $20 per month for the truck is no big deal.

Anyone not use the wifi hotspot? Should I just get unlimited data plan? I have unlimited calls but only so much data per month to use.

Dealership didn’t activate the vehicle SIM card and it sounds like it’s going to be a PITA for them to do it. ?‍♂
Never used it. Turned it off, unplugged the module under the dash.

I have unlimited data on my phone.

Very likely. I's not constrained by form factor quite so much, and it's higher, with a better ground plane. Cell phone antennas are in a very dynamic propagation environment, being so close to a body, with hands touching the antenna, etc. Panel-mounted antennas can be optimized for their exact environment.

I didn't activate mine, our cell plan has unlimited everything plus our phones can act like a mobile Hotspot. When I bought the truck we had AT&T (same as the trucks wifi) now on Verizon and haven't seen the need. I had co sidered activating it if I could afford a long cross country trip I had thought a modem on a different carrier would be a good way to have a signal.

Nope. Don't need to pay extra for it. Never activated the wife's car, either.
I'd use it if it was free. I already pay for my cell phone and always have a signal.

I have used my phone under Version for many years...only when there is a Windows update that I run into download problems.... Verizon hot spot works well in Flagstaff or where we are in our RV except for window updates... Maybe gamers have difficulties? not my cup of tea.... besides you should not be gaming on the road anyway....

Best,
Phil

I don't have it, but I've considered it for my dashcam to connect to in order to upload to the cloud. I do NOT have unlimited data on my cell. I don't need it at all. Still considering it, but haven't done it. $25 isn't too bad.

I'm not gaming on the roadway, I want to listen to my music apps and I burn through my unlimited data plan rather quickly because their is no such thing as an unlimited data plan. :)

Although I've recently canceled our wifi hotspot, we were only paying $10/month (plus taxes, of course) because our cell phones were with AT&T. You might ask about that.

My Unlimited Plan switched over from monthly to yearly starting today. $25 per month to $200 per year. My grand kids are the only ones who use it with their tablets. Now advertised with Warner Bros. Discovery Ride access.... I dunno - looks like more of the 'woke' crap....
