I’m running the Livernois tune. Swap between the tow/tune and 93 performance. No other mods performance wise. Always use 93 with the tow tune as well. Best I can get is in the 24mpg range on highways running about 60. I’m in Charleston SC where it is super flat which helps. I usually average around 21.8.

I find it hard to believe some actually are getting north of 25mpg with these trucks, Premium octane included. That means they are getting 500+ miles per tank, and unless you have a stiff tail wind, I don’t see how that’s possible.

So for those that post 28-29mpg, what are you running (mods) and what percentage city/hwy?

FWIW my stock 2022 Ranger gets a maximum of 487 miles or < 500 per tank, unless I drive it until the truck stalls out maybe.
Keep it at 55-60mph, slowly accelerate keeping shift points at 2K RPMs, and I get 28.5 mpg in the summer in Central NC when traveling. 26.5mpg at 65-70mph

Not carrying the extra weight of 4wd. On a pure highway run Ill beat 25mpg easily with the tune... but im 2wd and lighter.

I run 5% Ethanol blend......minimal city driving and more highway running 65mph........hand calculated yesterday and 24.4mpg. Should get better as it warms up and fuel quality goes up.

I had an MPG improvement (and power improvement) after switching out all of my driveline fluids. I changed mine LONG before the stated drain interval and glad I did, as the diffs & transfer case were full of metal dust. And as far as longevity goes....I assume Michigan gets lots of snow and salty rodds, so if you want to avoid rust I strongly suggest getting it undercoated with Fluid Film this Spring and again this Fall.

You said it was a new truck.....If you install a CAI that's no problem. But if you change the Hot/Cold charge pipes to the intercooler I think that might mess with your warranty. I installed a cat-back exhaust and an aftermarket BOV for the turbo but that's it until my extended warranty is up at 125K. I think your foot has more to do with MPG in these trucks than any mods or tunes.

BTW...I have over 100K on my Ranger and have been running a HP tune since 30K. I can get 22 MPG on the highway if I just keep my foot out of it a bit....not all the way. When I was driving balls to the walls (most of the last 70K), I was lucky to get 16.5 to 17.

On another thread regarding gas prices I shared a pic of my on board computer showing an average MPG of 25.8 - it was after a 185 mile cruise control set at 70 on fairly level highway trip with modest traffic and good weather. Could I have broken 26 MPG? I recall having done that prior to leveling/raising the front a whopping inch and a half.

As far as my average MPG it hasn't changed much. I only started tracking it when I tested and reported here the introduction of the VelossaTech Big Mouth. My overall driving 'style' hasn't changed although my commute(s) and location/terrain has and I've maintained a constant number:

Even if all I do is country roads at 45-55mph, only stop for gas and food/quick rest stops, I end up with 479-487 miles per tank with a max of 19.5 gallons in the tank. That comes out to 24.9mpg, computer says 25.0mpg. That’s not bad, but I’d rather go all day without a single fill up and stop for gas only in the mornings.

Some of you with tunes are getting great MPG.

I think any of us could get those kind of numbers if we don't get into the boost on these turbo motors....I have a wireless gauge setup and can monitor engine parameters pretty closely. If you keep your foot from making a lot of boost with the turbo you can get great MPH numbers. I am a speed demon in my Ranger....or a least I used to be (I've slowed down considerably). Anyway, if I can pull 24.5 (like I have a few times commuting home 50 miles on the interstate recently), then anyone can.
That's a fact.....ask Dave how I drive....lol....

Hello everyone,

I’m a first time truck owner but not a first time turbo owner. Im a former US Navy Diesel mechanic I know my way around an engine. But to be honest this is my first time owning a brand new car and a truck for that matter. I use my truck to drive around diesel repair shops around Michigan since is part of my job.

The point with all this is that I’m done with my racing days and now I’m more focused on reliability and fuel savings. I’ve been researching the internet to see how I can improve the MPG and lifespan of my Ranger.

My question is: If I install a Roush intake, hot/cold charge pipes and a Cat back with no tune. Would my MPG improve? Would it damage my engine? Would a tune just make it just use more fuel?

I would appreciate any tips. Apologies for the long post.

Cheers!!!

Nice looking Ranger! I’m intrigued by your comment about diesel repair shops in Michigan. I’m in Michigan and retired from the diesel repair shop industry. Just curious which shop you’re affiliated with? PM me if you don’t want to share publicly. Again, nice Ranger!
