I am considering the AFE cold air intake for my 2021 Ranger Tremor. Have any of you installed one and if so, how do you like it?

I have put CAI on my F150, Charger and Challenger and had no need to do a "tune" to the engine. Is a "tune" necessary on the Ranger 2.3 if a CAI is installed?

Thanks for the advice!

A tune isn’t necessary and you won’t notice any real gains with a CAI. However a tune will really perk up the 2.3! I’ve tried a bunch of different tuners and I love the 93 Octane tune from Unleashed. And I do have a CAI.

AFE installed. Great quality and easy install. Saved some good buck$ on Black Friday Sale. Happy with this upgrade.

According to AFE, the gain is 5 hp at 5,500 RPM without a tune. Very little gain anywhere else. But a gain is a gain.

The Ford Performance Tune is 50-state legal and the gain is a very real 45 hp for twice the price of the AFE CAI.

Just my opinion, if you have the coin, get a CAI plus a custom tune (if legal in your state) to get the most power. I think 5-Star is 55 hp gain with 93 octane tune alone. Don't get a CAI with the Ford Performance tune as others stated it doesn't work with a CAI very well.

I think the best money spent is a tune only. Extra money....get a cat back exhaust too for the sound, and to let those pesky V6 Tacomas know they got beat by a 4 banger. FYI you don't need a tune or CAI to beat Tacomas and Gladiators. But you will need one to beat the GM midsize truck twins, or the new Nissan Frontier. Unless you're at high elevation.
