Did I mention I hate meeses to pieces?

I noticed my cab taking on a smell, thought maybe decomposing leaves or just country dirt getting in. Did a lot of driving since I last changed my cabin filter, so I ordered another cheap one from Amazon.

Finally got around to changing it - removed the cover to the cabin filter...

Hmm, a lot of leaves. Let's see how much it's collected?

Aw crap, there's mouse turds in there too. Time to check to see if there's anything else in there:

Twenty minutes with the shop vac and I'm not getting everything out, so I drop the fan from under the dash (unplug power, take out three screws)

I'm feeling a little hostile now, going crazy with the peppermint oil spray since there is a LOT of insulation coming out:

That wasn't all of it either. I'm going to hunt the little bastard(s) down.

I've heard mice don't like the smell of Irish spring soap an peppermint oil. I don't know if you could leave a bar zip tied under the hood or not an it help. I have a detached garage for my Harley an tools but I can't fit my truck in it. I toss a few mothballs in the corners to discourage them from coming in.
Had this problem few years ago.

Put Irish spring bars on top of your tires, just set them on top near suspension on top of tires so they go across the width of the tires.

They get in by running up your tires and into engine compartment. I cut soap into 2 long pieces. Has worked for me. Also if they get into your engine bay wash it good mice return to old nests by smell from urine and poop.

It's a darn good thing mice don't watch YouTube ;-)
There was a steep slope behind my dads garage with brush an stuff that I assume was the source of mice getting into my dad's garage. He used decon which I guess isn't available any longer. He joked "I'm going broke feeding my rates"

Keep leaves, brush, feed or anything mice can use to hide away from the house or where the truck is parked.

Floodlights work too

Retired, work is a four letter word.
Many RV'ers swear by the 12v LED rope lights under (on the ground) the rig to keep the critters out. My buddy is a full timer and used to have a mouse and pack-rat issue, after using the lights he says no more issue.

Check the cabin filter behind the glove box.

Had an issue with mice making nests on top of mine.
Had same problem with my 2011 Tacoma

Tip- Turn on the recirculate for the vents, that closes a door from the fresh air intake into the cab.
Also make a cover out of hardware screen on the fresh air intake to keep out critters.

Once you find 4-5 dead baby mice in your cabin filter you will wish you had. Ask me how i know

On the ranger, I believe turning the vehicle off restores the vent to its default position -- which is open to the atmosphere. Same as when switching the HVAC system off: the vent does not stay in the last position it was in, and it always returns to Open.

I mixed up and sprayed peppermint oil and for good measure stuck some Shake Away rodent repellent sachets under the hood. Not sure how good this is working when a couple days later I see something chewed the corner of one...

Yea, I know, an old thread, but I think this applies.

BAD tweety birds!!

It seems the shelf of the grill is a perfect place to build a nest?
(No wonder it warmed up so quickly yesterday)

I guess we gotta check the nook&crannies of our trucks once and a while, eh?

Just FYI folks ?
