any reason why you didnt leave it upright on the wheels? was it too long, or were you worried it would roll out??

Did I mention I left my straps at home? (I went to Home Depot for some lightbulbs!) ?. So however that thing would sit un-tethered the most stable was the way I was going!

Upright would have been a higher COG and it was wobbly enough even on its side. Also, the wheels would not have fit into the bed floor "rails", making it really off-kilter and even more unstable. I wanted a nice flat side against a nice flat floor.

I took corners a bit slower than normal, but otherwise, it worked out fine (probably didn't hurt that it weighed A LOT)

what's the maximum recommended weight on the tailgate? i will be loading up motorcycles pretty frequently (my triumph has a wet weight of like 490 pounds, and the rear wheel will be on the tailgate), so i probably ought to know this ha. doubt it'll ever beat the weight of that ATV tho.

On occasion I would throw my softail into the back of my F150. The rear wheel would be well onto the tailgate. I would throw a 4 x 8 piece of thick plywood down on the bed before loading, to better distribute the weight.
