You ever changed an oil pan?
Rare vehicle where you don't have to undo a lot just to get to the point the pan can be removed. Then you R&R the pan. Then you un-do all that had to be done to get there. Adds up.
$275 When the MSRP is $266.67 for the pan?
Actually I have, and I agree it's a PITA job. But when I did it I didn't have the use of a hoist, and power tools either, would have been far easier, and faster, if I didn't have to use a jack, axle stands, and a ratchet wrench, sockets, and ring spanners. I still recon $1750 is a bit steep, although he didn't say if that included the cost of the part or not.

I see where the cost comes from, Manual has you pull the motor out, mainly due to removing the front cover. The front cover bolts to the pan on the lower end. Labor Guide calls for 21.4 Hrs.

I am sure it can be done without pulling motor, but to do it right and to get a proper seal on the front cover - it will most likely have to come off.
I have changed oil pan gaskets on other vehicles without pulling the front cover, so it can possibly be done.

And then if it still leaks cause you didn't pull the front cover, you get to do it again. Only this time for free since it's a comeback. I turned wrenches for a living for a long time and learned real quick, most of the time it doesn't pay to skimp.

Dealers charge book or more. Never less.
The mechanics get paid by book time. If they are faster they potentially make more $.
At least that was the way it was for my stepson who was one of the highest earners at the dealership he worked for.

1st I don't think Duke was calling you a turd, it just that the whole situation seems weird that you thought you had a steering problem, but it turns out it's the diff.
I now can see how the two are related. If the diff is locked up due to damage, steering will be more difficult. Both rear wheels turning at the same rate puts a bind on the diff and steering as the truck wants to go in a straight line.

How long would it take for them to just rebuild the diff? Or is it the same situation that parts aren't available?

UPDATE: It's only the differential that needs rebuilt. It throws the same code for steering gear apparently and the steering tightens up in limp mode. I was just posting what the service adviser told me. But as of Monday it just need the rear-end rebuild. I'm not happy about it but it is what it is. I've opened a buy back claim with Ford as there's a few issues with the truck. Also when I first got the truck it had an oil leak issue that turned out to be the oil filter wasn't installed correctly.
I love ford Rangers. I want another Ranger-just not this one sorry for going on but I'm taking a lot of flack for this post.
New update, they still haven’t started the rebuild on my differential as they just received the parts.
I asked for total a new rear end as I bought a new truck not a rebuilt one. They still need to address a strange sound out of the front of the engine but hopefully Ford is buying this Truck back or exchange it. I filed a buy back claim 2 weeks ago. Also I filed a claim as I’ve been having to pay a co-pay for my covered loaner..ugh, so far $239.00. I let Ford know this isn’t fair and pay a $750. Truck payment. Really disappointed with Ford.

A truck payment of $850? Sounds like you need to get yourself a used truck that you can buy outright and save your pennies if you get the buyback..... that's my input there

Three totally unrelated issues? For real?
Don't waste your $ on lottery tickets because all your luck is BAD.

now with 6400 miles
I don't understand the logic here.
That's 6,400. miles (new) not 64000...I want a new off the line differential, not one thats been rebuilt. I asked at service they said the guy rebuilding has not rebuilt a new Ranger rear end let alone a 2023. My logic is I'll be back soon and the original one was apparently torn up will large medal pieces inside. I'm hoping the buy back or trade goes well.

Understanding your concerns, a rear axle is a rear axle. As long as they have the tools to do it and the guy has done it before you will be fine

Exactly. And there’s nothing unique about it being a 2023.

Seen a few people on here and other boards and FB groups saying their rear diffs blew pretty early on.
