Not out of line at all. Even Aamco offers three levels of service, fluid exchange, filter change and refill, or all the above.

I understand.. it’s not too crazy.. unless you can do it yourself..
I was still kinda just chuckling about how the service lady was telling me the the transmission has no filter… (I have a low threshold for entertainment and humor?.)

Yeah, she probably just heard something about how the trannies are sealed and require little maintenance or something.

Service center at the dealership I got my truck from… said $350.00 for a fluid exchange (no filter change) ? they call that a transmission service… well it is “A” service, but not exactly what would call a “Transmission Service”…
Being a sarcastic fellow at times..
I said so when you change the oil on a vehicle do you not change the filter?
The lady (she was polite I admit.) replied oh sir actually on these newer vehicles the transmission doesn’t have a filter. ?
I just said I’m pretty sure it does but ok thank you for your time…

I will not argue that some vehicles modern wise don't really have much of a filter anymore for the transmission. Even my 2012 Frontier has more of a screen and not a filter for the transmission. That said it doesn't mean all vehicles are like that. Even I'm not that silly

Holy smokes that’s expensive lol! I think I spent 400.00 to get the FitzStick, filter, gasket, fluid, Lubeguard and transfer pump lol.

Well my $189 was not for real. Turns out is just a flush....full fluid exchange. No filter.
Dealer said the price to drop the pan, replace filter and gasket + flush is $800. Crickets from me for a few seconds trying to do the math. ....didn't matter, I didn't bite.
So I just received my new PPE aluminum pan. That cost doesn't count toward the total price. I also received a new Ford OEM filter and gasket. $121 shipped.
Now I'm up to $323 including tax on the $189. If the 30K mile fluid from the dump for my PPE pan and new filter looks good enough I'll pour it back into the fill and be off to the dealer for the flush only. If the old fluid spooks me I put in $45-50 of new fluid and still be ahead $425.
I swore off jack stand work a few years ago. $425 is worth the effort.

Just replace the fluid and call it a day. No way I'd reuse the fluid. There's going to be stuff sitting on the bottom of the pan that is going to get stirred up when you take it down. Just dump it and replace.

There's no need to worry about putting the fluid back in or doing the flush at that point. Do another D&F in 10k if you want or go with 30k changes. Or whatever interval makes you happy.

Its not that I don't like the flushes, I just don't like dealer monkeys breaking factory seals to hook up their equipment. IMO that's just asking for it to leak afterwards.

Thanks, I will. This whole exercise to prep the tranny for a dose of the legendary elixir LubeGuard.
I don't fully understand the 10R80's death spiral, but I'm willing to put a few bucks into mine to prevent, or delay it.

I just paid $350 for a flush. I saw that adapter but wasn't sure if it would work. If you try it keep us updated.

I would get yourself a case of the Transmission Fluid. Instead of a flush from the dealer, I would change the Pan with Filter then fill it up the first time. Start the truck and let it idle. With the foot on the brakes, shift through each gear position from park to sport mode and back and let it sit in each position for a few seconds. Once you get back to park, shut the engine off and do the next drain and fill. You might want to do this 3 times in total including the initial pan drop, so make sure you have enough fluid to do so. I did this with my 2012 Frontier and I have yet to have an issue. The only difference being that I did not replace the filter(it's just a screen).
