I think my laptop speakers aren't helping me determine what any of these videos actually sound like
10 years ago, I did a comparison of 3 exhausts on a parallel twin 650 motorcycle. And it's the same thing - everyone wants that deep literbike inline 4 sound, but you just aren't going to get it no matter what with a 2 cylinder motorcycle.

But anyway, when I recorded the exhausts, I did it pro style. I used a calibrated measurement mic, posted high bit rate files and told people to listen with quality headphones, like Sennheiser and not garbage like Dr Dre Beats or Skullcandy. And then for good measure, I posted real time analyzer curves. Now that is the way to compare exhaust tone! :like:

Smartphone mic frequency response sucks. It's really pointless to make videos with sound. Rather if you guys want to do something useful, post images of before and after spectrum analyzer curves at different rpms. Grab a smartphone app to do it. Maybe this one.

Yup. I just favor lightweight bikes. I could actually pick it up when I dropped it. :D
Haha that is nice! I’m excited to see how the KTM 390 adventure is going to be. I haven’t had any issues picking up my V-Strom 1000 yet though. But lighter weight is always good

Anyone running this?

I'm trying to decide what all I want to do in regards to exhaust. Downpipe plus catback something, just not sure yet! I like the side exit, before the tire look. Honestly though, I'm not looking for loud! Don't want her sounding like a Honda!
for that price you might as well just get a pipe to replace the muffler and use the stock exit. it would cost less than 50 bucks. That side exit would be loud in the cabin. i had one on my 2005 4.0 and it was really loud in the cab especially with the pass window open.

And if you're a "windows down" driver you can also get fumes in the cab.

just to join in on the talks, i have a 75 pinto wagon. it was given to me when i was 15 non-working and was my first car and what i drove for several years. my dad and i actually raced it in the SCCA motorcross solo division and did decently well with it. long story short, i blew up the motor so i rebuilt with better parts. ranger cam, ranger header, lower efi plenum with adapters to a 2 bbl webber carb. esslinger pulleys, and a nice pull through electric fan. all that was run through basically 3" exhaust. the only thing even attempting to make the car a little quieter was a 3" in/out cherry bomb.

yeah, it was loud. super loud. like, you could hear it over a mile away. but it wasnt ricey sounding at all. it had a pretty throaty growl to it (for a 4cyl) and droned pretty bad at highway speeds. but it was fun as hell.

all that being said, has anyone thought of throwing a glasspack on these rangers? as stupid as it sounds, they actually sound pretty good on the 5cyl turbo volvos. no reason why they couldnt sound good here too. ill hit up youtube and see if anyone has done an ecoboost with a glasspack and try to post a link
