Did you have a new muffler welded onto the stock setup? And eliminated the stock muffler?

That's what I did. I picked up a Borla off Amazon.

How well ( or not) did that simple fix turn out? Seems that would be a much less expensive alternative to replacing the whole thing.

I like the sound it's not much different. Chopping off the resonator would increase the volume from what I hear. The muffler was $80 on amazon an I had a $50 gift card or I might have gotten the $40 flowmaster. Labor was around $100 because they had to add a hanger to replace the one built into the stock muffler.
