Yes, definitely new here. Today the dealer said it was just a cautionary comment given many warranty companies first ask what the tires are.

Hey community,

First post here. Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can offer. As a non-savvy car guy, I use this community a lot for tips, advice, etc. So thank you all!

Looking to upgrade the tires on my 2019 XLT Ranger. It currently has some stock size tires that they put on when I bought the truck used from AutoNation. They still have a lot of tread left, I’m just itching to keep improving my truck.

After some research on here, it seems like the ideal size without a lift is 265/70/17, where it won’t rub or need any alterations. But correct me if I’m wrong.

This is what I’m looking for in a tire:

Purely aesthetics.
I just want some beefier looking tires that maybe give my truck like an inch lift or so. I don’t off road. I never drive in snow, although it has been raining a ton more than usual in Los Angeles.
I mainly use my truck to commute and maybe a short road trip occasionally. I live a mile away from work so I don’t put a lot of mileage on my truck (~42k miles on a 2019) and now that the weather is getting warmer, I may be biking to work a lot more.
I don’t want tires that are going to be super loud on the road or affect my MPGs drastically. I also don’t tow or have heavy loads in the bed. Looking for maybe an all terrain that is road friendly, but has some grip in case I ever need it—it is hilly in SoCal—and won’t affect the ride. Heck, maybe even make it better.
I’ve seen a lot of people mention BFG KO2s, which look cool, and some other brands. My local Costco has a promo on Bridgestone and Michelin right now.
Also, are there any pros and cons to going bigger? I’ve read it throws off the speedometer.

I know this is a lot, I just want to make sure I make the right choice. I really appreciate if you’ve read this far.

I’m thinking I’ve settled on BFG Trail Terrains in 265/70/17.

Anyone have them and can share some pros/cons?

I got quoted $1,077 out the door—seems like a good deal, no? I’m in Los Angeles.

No experience with it, but looking at it on tire rack, it's just a road tire being called an All-Terrain. Traction, Temperature and Wear Ratings are decent at least. If you are sticking to the pavement, it should be fine along with basic dirt roads. If you want to hit the trails, but dont want an LT, I would take a peak at the Firestone Destination AT2. It's available in that size, is 1 lb heavier and has excellent manners on the street and trail while having good wet weather traction.

I will be sticking to pavement, mainly. I want a road tire that looks “off-roady” but won’t kill me too much in MPGs and road noise on the road. These seem to check those boxes.

If you have the chance, I would take a peak at the tires in person first. Specifically I want you to look at the sipes in the tire. If they are not deep, look at a different tire. I know in LA you will get rain. It may not be every day, but when it happens you are going to want sipes in the tread. Others to consider that have good wet weather traction is the Firestone Destination LE3 and the Michelin LTX.

Aftermarket insurance can use that to avoid a claim. happened to our friend with her suburban. They tried to not cover her trans because the tire was 1" taller than stock. I used Ai to prove the mathematical load difference was well within payload of the vehicle. Also found another model Suburban that had a tire 0.5" smaller to prove it was fine. Claim got accepted but not without work.

Hey all,

Finally getting my tires on today.
BFG Trail Terrain in 265/70/17… white letters out!

Will I need an alignment? They check it for free at the tire place and I’m sure they’ll try to upsell me, but I’ll do it if it’s recommended by you guys on here.

Depends on where everything is on the measurements. Chances are it will need an alignment regardless especially with a lift. I would do it anyway

Just under 58k. Have had the truck over 3 years, have put about 32k miles on it, same tires I’ve had since I bought it. Not a great brand of tire.
Lately I think I’ve felt it pulling a little to the right, but sometimes I think it may be the road and could be all in my head.

Yup size matters. 285/70/17
But honestly those tires look good I had to go through a lot to make these fit. Looking back not sure it was worth it. Between the 3" lift and 10 ply tires,I can go anywhere I want as long as I drag a gas station with me. 15 city and 17.5 hwy avg.
So it was costly.

Oof! We’ll see how much these affect my MPGs, I’m assuming at least a little bit. I may do some Bilsteins on the front to go with the ones I put on the rear, but not a necessity right now.
