seat belt tension

anyone know how to adjust the tension for the seat belt ? the drivers seat belt does not retract completely & gets between the doors at times

I've had that happen a few time but not recently. All I did was grab the belt and try and work it back and forth kind of "snapping" it as I bring it back. That released it and it starting retracting again. Hopefully that'll work and it's not broken internally.

There is no adjustment for the belt tension. Pull the belt all the way out and check to see if it is twisted while slowly retracting.

Do you park facing slightly downhill?

Honestly, it’s a serious question.

If you’re parked facing downhill, the pendulum swings and engages the lock mechanism, just as if you were braking hard and the nose dipped.

the belt is not twisted & truck is on a level driveway........

There’s enough room in the gap where the belt enters the SuperCab door that the belt could easily retract inside there while twisted/folded and end up twisted behind that door latch cover.

no, I have pulled it as far as it would go & let it retract on its own. its not twisted & slows down with about a foot or more travel remaining.

I had same problem in another vehicle. Someone suggested wiping belt down with diluted laundry detergent. It did work.

With the mechanism mounted inside the rear door of the SuperCab, it is impacted every time the door gets shut. After repeated closings, something could break, dislodge, or come loose. Maybe there’s something related to the recoil spring that’s been affected. I don’t always slam my door but I’ve done it while in a hurry, busy, etc.

I’d be carefully popping off that trim piece/latch cover and figuring it out. If it wasn’t obvious on first glance, I’d have the passenger side off as well so I could compare a working model to the faulty one.

In my experience, If something (or someone) needs more tension, simply get the wife involved...

I suspect if you wipe it down with a cleaner or protectant such as (303) as well as the belt guide that it rides on - may help - it builds up lint and body dirt - it always helps when mine starts hanging up.
